Help picking Cam????

I have a 1997 trans am; car has a 355ci forged LT1, 9:0:1 compression, P1SC procharger with 3.40 pulley (12-14psi not sure how much it will make yet), 42lbs injectors, electronic ignition, headers, 3in exhaust, and a few other mods.

I have stock heads, but want to put springs and a cam.

Question: What cam will do me best and why?

I know I want to have 114 seperation but what about intake to exhaust valve duration? Do I want a single plane or dual? (like 224/224 114)

I just want it too go . .. . I have looked at many cams, but I am totally not sure on which one to go with.

thanks for viewing,
Buzz

Buzz,

For a street car you're not going to need much cam - depending on your hp goal, driveability requirements etc.

I made 446 with the comp 218-230-114 blower grind at 7psi. The combination was not optimized either (no tune, rev limiter at 5500, hot humid day....) I do have ported heads, but they're nothing fancy. With this cam you can lug 6th gear on the highway with a 3.42 rear and it has little lope to it.

I would also search some of older post on here if you haven't yet. The shelf grind above mine and below mine were popular. Otherwise you can have somebody spec you out a custom cam.

215-220 intake duration with ~12-15 more on the exhaust on a 114LSA.

I forgot to add that I have a 6 speed manual tranny, thanks for the suggestions.

Any other good cams that will bring good hp results?

I ran a Crane cam (218/218 .498/.498" 116* lsa) in a stock 97ss/ M6 with 3.73:1 gears back in 1998 --> 2001. A P600B Procharger with a small pulley. Cam was very street friendly, and, would not stop reving. Headers and AFR 190 heads with the AFR rev kit helped. Really liked the cam. I still have it. I have moved to a D1 and Cam Motion 231/240 .538/.560" 114lsa. I have done alot more tuning to get it right. B.
