Help with cam selection please.

Ok im very new to supercharging motors and to lt1's. I have built old school 350s before but not an lt1. Im in the process of building my 93 lt1 motor. Its a 383 now. The bottom end is forged with 20.4cc dish forged pistons. Im planning on afr 195 or 210 heads w/ 65cc chambers. im just trying to get my bottom end put back together. So that brings me to buying my next part, the cam. I just dont have a clue about what to look for in a cam for a supercharged motor. Ill hope to at least run 10psi or a lil more. Its gonna be mostly a bad street car, but it will see strip time. Oh this cam needs to work with a fuel injected system, ill prob. reflash the stock computer and try to tune it from there. But i am really open to suggestions. So if any of yall know of a cam that would be great for this application please let me know, i know nothing about s/c cams. Ill go for either a cam i can buy or a custom grind, i just need to know what to look for. But if yall know a company that has one to fit my description please share. thanks matt.

Oh yeah. The big reason im worried about the amount of psi to run is because i want to run on pump gas. So anywhere from 10psi to 15psi im thinking would give me great performance while not detenating(spark knocking) I would like the cam to have power between 1700-5500 im thinking. But still any info will be appreciated.

Get one w/ around .530 lift, 230's duration and on a 114 LSA to control valve overlap and not blow a bunch of boost out the exhaust.

Check out www.compcams.com and that will help you. If you have Acrobat Reader on your PC than use the Online Cataloge....much easier.

I'm using a custom Comp 214/224 531/568 lift. Thats with a 1.5 rocker, but i'm using Crane 1.6's cause i already had them when i had it put together. Its pretty street friendly and makes power where your looking to make it. Since you have a 383, make sure you have the right head unit assuming your going with a vortech or procharger. A t-trim or procharger equivelent will work nice to feed the cubes.

Hey roguedriver, is that cam computer tune friendly? It sounds like a decent cam. How do you like it, does it sound good?

If you get the AFR's I would not get the cnc'd ones. Get stock ports then send them to repuitable porter. Or Get some 200cc stock heads. Or if you have the money try the trick flows with the right porter.

Why not get the cnc'd Afr's? If i was to go w/ trick flows that would be cheaper?

The cam is computer tune friendly. Thats one of the reasons i chose it. I spend the majority of my time on the street. There are cams that will make more power out there, but i figured i'd give up a little for something more streetable. The drivability is good. Idle isn't exactly stock, but it isn't really lopey either. Just enough to know theres a cam in there. It took a little bit of tuning to get it good, but my drivability is smooth and cam surge is pretty much non-existant. I'm happy with it.

I just don't thank the have the best cnc program for those heads. Not saying they are a bad head but there are some stock 200 cc heads out there making reat power. Mostly a money thing. But if you want the AFR's just find someone else to hand port or some with a cnc prog for them.

So what heads would you recommend for my set up. The trickflows or what?? I just need a good flowing head with at least a 65cc combustion chamber may need to make that a little bigger. Im looking to be at 9:1 cr when done. I have 20.4 cc dish pistons. and of course its a 383. Also whats a good head gasket?

trickflows from ai or le. Ive seen some flow numbers out of both of them and their cracking 300 cfm's @650. Perfect for your bigger motor.

It's funny to keep seeing "my" 214/224 cam keep coming up. The higher lift lobes with 1.5rockers actually works better, but it will still work fine. Actually, the higher loft lobes with 1.6 would work better still but not be so great on street valve spring life, though better springs are available than when I first specced it out many years ago.

I know im still pretty new here but when you say trick flows from Ai or le. What are you talking about? I know about the trick flow heads but what does the AI or LE stand for, and where do i look for these heads?
