Have to rebuild anyway, 355 or 383 w/Powerdyne (Vortech maybe later)

OK, I need to phrase my question more carefully.....

Let's assume I use my stock heads ported by Lloyd Elliot ..... with my 7.5% overdriven 6 PSI Powerdyne kit and a custom cam matched to everything. That being the case, for best all around power should I go with a 355 or a 383? I guess that's all I really wanted to know. If there's any chance the 383 would actually make less power at the top end due to the lack of runner size, perhaps it's not something I should chance.

TFS Heads

What bad things have you heard about these heads???? I cant find much info. Does anyone know if its a descent casting??? I like the thicker deck. I thought bout gettin the bare set then sending them off to be finished. Would the LT-4's be better starting point???

Hey Rob, I did a search on them here and there are some huge threads on them. They said they are very similar to the 23 degree heads used on a sbc. Thick deck is nice, along with 64cc combustion chambers and 195cc intakes ....seem like they would be ideal for supercharging/stroking as they claim. They are a very new product though .....people had relatively bad luck with the fully assembled 23 degree units for the sbc as far as reliability goes. The consensus seemed to be it would be best to buy them bare, then have them ported and assembled .....this is too much money for me so I've pretty much given up on them. No one seems to have a full sheet of flow numbers on them right out of the box either.

So Roadie and Rich.....if I decide I'm doing LE heads no matter what, should I build a 355 or 383?

i have TFS 195 heads on my carbed sbc. Need to use the rite sealer on the rocker studs or you'll suck oil into motor . Had them since 2000 and got them fully assembled. Went low 12s n/a on a mild 355 on REAL street tires. I am putting them on a hotter 400 now.

I'd go 383 in your case, if $$$ is tite sell the PD kit to pay for the heads and drive it till you can aford a bigger SC.

It would be cool to see if the PD would make any boost on a bigger good breathing motor like the your building

Hey man that's a really good idea! Hadn't thought of that. Not saying I'm doing it ...but it's a really good idea!
