Good for a laugh! 65 mustang TT project.
hey guys, i thought id see what you turbos dudes think about this story.
my brother in law is out right now taking a turbo off of a turbo T-bird and has already got one from a turbo probe. not sure what year the cars are. (oh yeah and an intercooler from a Saab)
he is planning on rigging them up to his 65 stang that has a completely rebuilt (never fired) 5.0 that came from a 86 or 86 mustang. the motor was slated to be a carb NA motor. hes got a demon carb on it now. hes running around 9.5:1CR.
i told him the best thing to do is to get the paxton kit for carbed 5.0s
but he found this site that tells about making your own TT kit from used turbos. so thats what hes thinking (for now).
im scratching my head at a few things....
-boost control (if these turbos can even create any), they have internal wastegates.
-different size turbos? will this be okay. he said one turbo is bigger than the other.
-will these two turbos even flow enough to support his power? with the SVO racing heads and cam package id imaging that the motor alone would make anywere from 350 to 400 hp.
there are a bunch of variables here but i just wanted to hear some opinions (i know there are plenty of them here), suggestions, jokes...whatever.
and if this is just a plain out stupid thread......sorry

Re: Good for a laugh! 65 mustang TT project.
this post can be forgotten. i talked him out of it.
i went over and saw the turbos he got. ridiculously small. the eye of the empellar housing was just a little bigger than a silver dollar.
he was told that the turbo would be good for 7-9 psi. i told him how boost is created and that the turbo might make 7psi on the 4 banger, but the 5.0 is an entirely different story.....
i think hes gonna end up getting a paxton or procharger set up down the road...
