FI or NA?? anyone ever been in this situation??

Thanks for looking

I am currently having an all forged 355 being built for 11.5:1 CR but then i realized something, i am spending all this money on basically a really strong stock motor.....whitch i think it a waste.

So i am looking for ways to make some good solid power...
my options are:
-Large Cam
-N20
-Turbo
-Blower

Bascially i want to know what you would pick (ed) and why?

here is my reasoing
-large cam... been there, done that, HATE large cams for only daily driver car.
-N20 ... temporay power, not good for anything be 1/4 and street race, hard on motor and $$$ (200 shot would last 2-3 races at $50 a pop)
-Turbo ....way cool, awsome power and drivabilty, but hard to tune? lots of costom fabbing (i wouldn't buy a kit) pricy
-blower... I think im leaning to this now. easy of install can find a good kit in the $1200-1800 range.

Still i want other peoples imput.

Also, the pistons are not in yet and i have found i can trade them out at no cost for some dished pistons that put the CR to 9.6:1
BTW i have heads, valvtrain, LTs blah blah blah already.

THANKS!

I personally have been in love with turbos since I got my first DSM. That would be my first choice but like you said that alot of work and money. If I had your car I would go with a blower. I really like ATI and there products a buddy of mine has one on an LS1 and he loves it. I would suggest going with something bigger than what you "need". At first that may seem like a bad choice but Ihave never met a car guy that is happy with what he has. When I get a new turbo for my DSM I am going srtaight the turbo I what instead od going in steps.

I guess im now looking for a ATI p1-sc or d1-sc.... or i guess even a P600b. But more opinions would be nice... this is alot of money, specially for a college student.

Thanks boostedinaz

I got my vortech for a good price, that's why I went that way. I was just about to have heads/cam installed and the blower popped up so I bought that instead. It's different, gets more stares than the h/c cars at the strip. Now I have too many projects going so I hope the LT1 doesn't blow up any time soon, no more $$ to spare.

After trying to go fast NA for 4 years....head/cam, solid roller 355, solid roller 396 I have decided to go FI.

Some of the motors were successes, others were not. For the same amount of money I could be a second faster in the 1/4 and +10mph than NA. My solid roller 396 was fun (until my bunk Crane lifter failed), but even at a 10 second car on motor, just wasnt as "fast" as I wanted the car.

Sold all my NA stuff and bought a YS trim, fuel system, and a new 383 shortblock.

>Jason ,
Keep us informed on the YS trim on how you like it .
I plan to swap my T-trim for the YS next year (or when feasible) and go with the YS-trim or something .

I like your change, but you will need more fuel system to make the FI setup work so it's not just changing pistons.

I had a 422ci iron block LS1, parted it out, now am 348ci LS6 and big YS trim. I made 475rwhp with the n/a setup and even with issues went 11.0@123mph on pump gas. But the best I could have hoped for was 10.8@125mph or so, I sold the parts and now hope for 9's.

575rwhp is a very attainable goal.

With 9.6:1 compression I'm not sure if you can do 575rwhp on pump gas I think you will be right there.

The wiseco pistons i was going to get have a 20cc dish witch puts it at 9.6:1

What other off the self pistons can i buy that have more of a dish? recomendations?

Kenny I have some TRW's that put my ompression at about 9.2:1 which i think is fine for what your trying to do. I know several people who have run this combo and had great success out of it. Hit me up on aim if any further ?'s.

I currently have ported heads and the CC306 cam and just installed a NX wet kit, but don't like it. The car smells terribly rich at idle, either my tuning is terrible or not having cats is making it smell. I am planning on going the turbo route for the next engine, mainly because it can have a smallish cam and make gobs of power.

Yah i used to have a cc306 to... i just dont like how its always rough ya know?
like its great for racing and friday nights cruisin, but when you pissed upp after a hard day at work or on a date and trying to talk in your car, and everything it rattling and you having to stare at your oil pressure cuz it doing wierd stuff...i hate that.

What is your reasoning for turbo over blower? I see turbos as a better setup, but the price and work compared to a supercharge does not justify it for me...im still just keeping an open mind to all these options thanks

The cool thing about turbos is thats its pretty much free hp. And the efficiency and the torque you get out of them us great. I would love the idea of doing a turbo setup but I really dont want to deal with the oiling part of it.

I have to give a thumbs up on the wisecos.

Thats the same pistons I had. They survived 4 years, 50K miles, 600rwhp and around 4-5 blown head gaskets. The bearings in the motor finally gave out, tore the damn thing down and the pistons still look pratically brand new.
