few questions on requirements for bottom end on superchared motor
few questions on requirements for bottom end on superchared motor
Hey guys. I have an LT1 that I plan on building in the future. It will be going in my 85 trans am. I already have hooker long tube headers and duals so the exhaust side is taken care of. I want this to be one mean motor. I am not looking for a low boost setup. I should be putting about 400 hp out of my carbed 350 soon and dont want to go through all the money and work for a small power increase. I know I will need forged pistons. At what level is a forged crank and aftermarket rods needed? I figure it will be an aftermarket crank no matter what. I want to build the motor right but without spending un necisisary money.
I had been wanting to build a motor n/a like a 383 and then save up for the supercharger, but I dont know that that looks real feasable being as the differences in compression needed. I will be using ported impala heads to start with if I went that route, but how much of a compression difference would it make if I went with larger combustion chamber AFR's when I supercharged it. Would I be stuck buying new pistons in the end?
I know that this is the forced induction board, but while I am asking the question I was wondering if you guys know what a 383 w/ ported heads and somethign like the xe230 236 cam would put out power wise with supporting bolt ons.
Any suggestions welcome. No matter how you look at it, it will take me a while to save up for the parts, but it just depends on how much time. Lately I have been kind of leaning toward a N/A 383 just because of cost, but dont know if it will make the power I want.
Thanks
Ben
