Is F/I the way to go in my case ?

I have my LT-1 outside the car so working on it isn't an issue.
Now, i figured that this was a good time to work on the engine so it will make significant more HP before putting it in the car.
Over that last year i started collecting performance parts like: headers, elec waterpump, 1.6 RR's, HP clutch, MSD 6Al, CC 306 cam, and some other good stuff and in the process i even got f*cked for $1250 on performance heads by a guy in TX

I was bummed out for quite a while and i left the project alone for a while.
At this moment i however WANT to continue otherwise i might never do it at all, but this time i wish to take the best road for the buck.
I want to get it over with and make sure i get that engine in my car without months of work and tons of $$$ on machine shop work (Boring, port matching, balancing, etc.)

I noticed that in order to reach about 425 Crank HP and serious TQ it would require some bad boy Heads that don't come cheap along with a lot of other things to make it all work and get even past the 375 mark.

- I was wondering if Forced Induction would be an option in my case ?

- I see used Vortech blowers on sale so maybe that could be an option ?

- What are the costs of replacing the factory pistons and rods and replacing them with Lower Compression forged pistons and serious rods ? (material costs) The stock cranck seems to be strong enough for my goal.

Or should i just continue to try and make the power just on motor ??

P.s. Aiming at about $3000 to spend on an used Blower set and some mandatory parts or buy a new 6 psi Powerdyne blowerkit that is supposed to be suited for the stock LT-1.

Thank you for reading

It looks like all you need to add is a decent set of heads to make around 400hp to the wheels. about $1500, since you allready got the cam, rr's and stuff.

Forced induction gets expensive very quickly.

figure $1k for rods and pistons, $500 in machine work.
$1500 for used non intercooled Vortech.
$500 for fuel injectors, boost guage, FP guage, etc.

While somewhat usefull on a stock LT1, Powerdynes basically suck.

Re: Is F/I the way to go in my case ?

Thank you for your opinion, i assumed indeed that in the end F/I always gets more expensive than previously anticipated but i guess the prices of used Blower kits are so tempting ........

I haven't completely ruled out F/I yet as it might be more expensive but it basicly does include a sort of engine rebuild (pistons, rods, bearings, machine work, etc.) that would get that engine into top shape where as now i have no clue of the engines true condition (supposed to have run 70k miles) so i'd need to take it apart anyway ..... Hm, decisions decisions ...

Anymore folks want to give me their 2 cents worth ?

Nah, they blow.

Anyhow, I believe Combination Motorsports is offering a good deal on forged Eagle rotating assemblies right now. Might be something to consider when you really want to turn up the boost (and believe me, you will). Check the GP section of the board.
