D1SC/Engine Trouble Need massive help

Merry Christmas +1. I was driving my car 2 days ago in the rain, and all of a sudden, it began to bog down, sputter and at one point the engine even died. After not driving the car for 2 days, I took it out for a short drive to see if anything had improved...I cannot drive in anything over 2,500 rpm and can only use 1/4 throttle or else the car jerks back and forth.

I'm really worried and since this has never happened to me without forced induction...I figured I'd ask here. Is this something that's happened to anyone in here? What is it.

My car was fine until I drove it in the rain.

All help is so appreciated. Thanks.

Mike

Re: D1SC/Engine Trouble Need massive help

Check your fuel pressure. Start with the fundamentals. First guess would be fuel pressure drop. Bad pump, plugged filter, bad regulator. Caused by rain? Dont know, could be coincidence. As far as the rain, maybe ignition issues with water. Bad wires, cracked coils, water in ignition related connectors? last but not least, and lamest longshot,... did water get into yer airbox at all? I sucked up some water in my DD driving through a massive puddle, more of a pond I would call it (lol) and the engine didnt really like that much at half throttle. Bent a few valves (probably on the restart try as I didnt know there was water in the cylinders) and she wouldnt run at all. Even if you just got the filter wet, mixed with dirt ive seen them crust up like cement and not let much air pass though it. You think im joking,.....normal everyday people that come into my shop are just plain retarded. Ive pulled air filters b4 and found them to be a solid CHUNK of dirt. Not to say yer stupid, but if ya havent changed yer filter might wanna check it out.

Ditto. Mine did that when plug was leaking that goes into the top of the opti. Bought a new harness from Casper Electonics and it fixed it.

I assume it’s the 2001 in your sign (no opti) I have had this happen when water gets on the MAF sensor.

Oh, I just want to add that there aren't ANY SES lights or anything of that sort, which strikes me as strange. When I put a STS Turbo on my 04 GTO, and drove through the rain...it did the exact same thing. When I took it in for service, I was told that an O2 sensor needed replacing. Would an O2 sensor be to blame for these symptoms?

Wet air filter? Collapsing inlet tubing?

Okay, just disconnected the metal box that takes the place of the stock airbox (name?) and it, along with the hose that comes in from the left side, were full of a watery, muddy, pasty substance. Didn't smell or look like oil, but felt petroleum based. none of it made it passed that metal box into the maf or tb, but I'm still quite concerned.

Personally, I bought this car a month ago with all of these mods already done to it...and not to sound like an idiot...but I don't even KNOW where the air filter is. The tubing isn't collapsed, just that left side filled with gunk. What is this gunk and where is it coming from?

Gotta get the car on jacks tomorrow and really get under there.

Sounds like a wet MAF to me. Pull off the MAF and see if it's wet. This happened to me with my STS as well.

Sounds like it sucked water into the inlet.

Any remedy for that? Other than not driving in the rain from now on?
