Cometic head gaskets?

Anyone using cometic head gaskets on an Lt1 around? I hear sometimes that they do not seal well, but if they do you don't blow them. I currently have to change my head gaskets and was thinking about trying them. If they are aren't the way to go what should i use for 13#s of boost.

I talked to someone concerning Cometic head gaskets a few weeks ago and he told me that alot of turbo Mustang guys are using them with great success. The technology is based on dirtbike head gasket which has been around forever.

Dave I do not think the reason you blew your head gasket was because of boost but rather because of the tune on your car. You car is definelty fast and I would honesty say that your current tune is not up to par with the boost you are pushing. Also the cooling issue that has plagued you will have a great impact on blowing head gaskets.

If you choose not to go with Cometics heads gaskets than I would stick with Felpro 1074 head gaskets.

Yeah, I know the tune is not is it should be, but you you know how pu$$y i am about putting the car on a dyno again. Oh well looks like i have to bite the bullet and do it, if i get off my a** to change this head gasket soon, I am scared that the 60 over cylinders may have even cracked.

I am using the Cometic gaskets and they seal fine. However, I never had a problem with the Fel Pro, so I guess I had no good reason to change in the first place.

Dammit Dave you car better be ready when I get back. Yeah i hear you on the whole tune part. I was scared when my car first went on the dyno. I thought I was going to be sick.

I just ordered a pair of the 4.040 bore cometics today for my 355.
I can't wait to see them tomorrow when they arrive .
Operation "turn key" very soon

ps
I also like Rich have ran felpro 1074's with out a failure ever. I like the tighter quench area I'll end up with the cometics.

I blew a Felpro and put on the Cometics two months ago. Haven't had a problem since. When I researched these, I didn't find ANY negative threads, and I look a while. They are a bit pricy, though...

Call and talk to a sales rep. They were really good. These guys supply NASCAR builders...

Honestly, I don't think you'll have any problems with the Felpro gaskets.

The cylinder pressure you're going to generate with the ysi is ungodly. Just pay the extra money... The tow truck home from the track will be $100.

Unique design. The cometic website dosen't show um off well.
I pictured the layers being bonded in a laminate procsess not a rivited one... there fine

On a side note....
Theres a new gasket company to the aftermarket named CORTECO gaskets. I saw thier high end LS1 compiste [sp?] layered head gaskets at the last NSCA race and they are very very nice.
http://www.corteco-usa.com/Products/...erformance.pdf

Carbon center layer, steel outer layer, tool steel fire ring, and coated with a substance called white seal.
http://www.corteco-usa.com/prod/PDF/...Technology.pdf
The gasket uses no sealer and none will stick to it, it runs right off!
totally reusable also and comes off the motor leaving "NO GASKET" on the deck or head surfaces.
They (Corteco) will have LT1 gaskets in two more months...
...I couldn't wait so cometics are in hand
Good tech info: http://www.corteco-usa.com/prod/PDF/...e-Ignition.pdf

If your in the northern Ohio area next weekend (July 17, 18) Corteco will have thier display rig at the Salem Ohio NSCA race on manufactures midway.
By all means go see some fast cars and check out what they have

Corteco has been around for a little while.. we have always used their standard SBC one piece oil pan gaskets..... all rubber, with steel rings around all the bolt holes to prevent overtightening... they are indeed nice pieces
