Can I run a 4.5psi SC with little problems?
Can I run a 4.5psi SC with little problems?
I was thinking on getting a Supercharger that puts out from 4.5 to 6psi of boost. Will I be able to use 4.5psi and be reliable? I just want alittle bit more power but don't want to blow anything up real soon, I know it will eventually happen and that is ok. I have a stock bottom end with 50K on it. There is a chance I might use a 50shot of n2o also. Just wondering how long have people cars lasted on low boost with a stock bottom end. Will I need more fuel then what I have, I run real rich as it is now. I have 30lb injectors with a 255lph FP. I know some people will say why get a SC if you are going to use so little boost, I just want this for now then when I get my Bottom end built up, I will sell it and get a better one. I just want a used one anyway. thanks

You can run 4.5-6psi with out problems. But it could blow up any day and if you can spring the 3k for a rebiuld tommorow than I wouldnt do it. The injectors and pump are needed, but a dyno tune and how you drive it is going to determine how lond it lasts. How many miles do you have? The juice is asking for things to blow up. Knock is always going to be your enemy. Buy a scanmaster to see whats going on all the time. some insurance would be to add some xylene or a gallon or two of race gas to keep your octane up. The cc306 isn't going to be the best cam choice and if your close to 400rwhp with your heads/cam package I wouldn't try to add another 75-100 more horsepower.
To be honest I would say spraying your car would be your best choice. The problem with supercharging is that there is no way to determine how long your motor will last. Even with the proper tune you car can last 3 miles. Unless you have money set aside and can afford a rebuild I would not go the supercharger route.
I have had N20 for 4 yrs I am bored of it, I just like it for show now. I want the power there all the time. I just want a nice used SC, like a 4.5 Powerdyne or a small procharger with cooler. How my RWHP will the bottom end take?(450?). Will my injectors be enough or will I have to get 42lb? My car runs real rich now, I think I will be fine with 4.5lbs of boost. The bottom end has 50K, and I will buy a new one or rebuild it I have another car. BUt I rather that not happen anytime soon. I just want a SC for now..

I have been reading this site for 2 years. I have read about more bad stories than good. I would up the nitrous jets before throwing on a blower. LT1's do way better on them. Plenty of guys hit a 175 on the stock shortblock. I would be really careful, driving it would be not fun if I were you. dont beat on it. If your really want to:
1. Get on a dyno right after your install, done mess around early.
2. On the dyno if your fuel system comes short upgrade where ever needed. Blowing it up cuz your too lean would be sh*ty.
3. Pull lots of timing
4. pray you dont get any bad gas.
Good lcuk

You should be fine with 4.5 lbs of boost. You will have to remove your underdrive pullies and you should probably send your PCM back to Ed Wright to do a little tweaking on the program for safety. Ideally, you would put it on a dyno and have it tuned so that you would know exactly what is going on. Your 30 lb injectors with an FMU should work fine. I'm no expert, that is just my .02 worth.
