Cam choice for drag only car.
Cam choice for drag only car.
I'm looking for a cam that will produce max power and I'm not concerned with drivability.
Setup will be either 355 or 383, ported TFS heads, Ported intake, LT's, D-1 running 15-18psi and a FMIC. Driveline will probably consist of a TH350 but I'm undecided on the stall size and gear. Also I'm still undecided on compression ratio but should be anywhere from 8.5:1 to 9.1:1 i guess.
This car will basically be a track only car with occasional trips to town. So with that said I would like some opinions on a cam choice. I know a lot of people get on here and have Daily driving as a concern where I do not.
If there is any other info you all need let me know.

Re: Cam choice for drag only car.
I think the bigger decision is whether you go with a hydraulic or solid roller camshaft. If you want longevity, hydraulic is the way to go. I know there are a few guys on this board that run a solid roller on the street (or at least they claim this), they will make more power no doubt about it. Also, solid roller is a lot more expensive. With a radical camshaft, other parts come into play also, especially the valve springs and lifters.
Obviously you should consult with comp cams or some other camshaft/engine building professionals.

Don't get me wrong this isn't going to be an 8sec 1/4 mile car. I'm just not concerned with drivability on the street and want the max power. With that said it will still be driven some on the street but just occasionaly.

I actually have the 224/236 cam but the high lift version. I may stick with this cam but was looking into other options.

It still isn't clear to me what you mean by "working with the parts I already have". So, it's going to be an HR setup? Are you re-using valve springs? Rockers? Lifters? What are you wiilling to upgrade and what parts are you going to re-use?
