Bypass Valve Orientation
Bypass Valve Orientation
I have a Vortech S Trim kit installed per the manual on my 95 Z28 and would like to verify that I've properly installed the bypass valve. The installation instructions have the "seat" of the bypass valve (rubber diaphragm) facing the high pressure side of the blower outlet tube (routed to the throttle body) and the "side port" of the bypass valve routed back to the blower inlet (recirculation). What's confusing is when I surf the net for turbo application of bypass (diverter) valves, they're oriented the opposite way. I've also read test reports of the valves installed both ways with similar results. What's the proper orientation of the bypass valve?
Re: Bypass Valve Orientation
Mine is installed the exact same way as yours. Oh wait, we installed yours using mine as a sample! Sorry I couldn't be more help...
Least I can do is bump it to the top for ya!

Re: Bypass Valve Orientation
SS #1230, thanks for the reply. That's how I presently have it installed, same as the Vortech instructions. But why do the turbo installations have it reversed?
Re: Bypass Valve Orientation
im not sure why they would use them like that, seems to me that they wouldnt work as well. are they using different valves? or are they the same bosch valve? if its the same valve, the only thing that i can think of it that the valve isnt up to the high boost levels they are running and the wastegate does the bypassing (regulating the boost level), while the BOV only activates when the throttle blades close and there is vacuum on the line to open the valve.
if you have the valve like we have it, maybe the high boost will over power the valve and cause it to open. if its reversed then the only thing that can open the valve will be the vacuum line sucking it open.
make any sense?

Re: Bypass Valve Orientation
Turbo applications are using the same Bosch valve routed back to the intake of the turbo. See link below:

Re: Bypass Valve Orientation
hmm, i guess that id have to stick to my first theory. unless they are just plain wrong. using the valve the way we are makes more sense to me. if anything i would think that using it backwards like they show could possibly damage the valve.....
any other sites show the same thing???
