bypass valve for emissions?
bypass valve for emissions?
I'm looking for a little emissions assistance.
I was planning on venting my bypass valve (Vortech s-trim) to the atmosphere, but if I routed it into the exhaust, it should dilute the exhaust gasses with fresh (although heated) air.
Questions are - would I see enough bypass volume to make a significant difference at idle and at part throttle conditions (emissions dyno testing situations)? Would it provide more bypass air at idle and/or part throttle, than the stock air pump (assuming the air pump was wired to stay on longer)?

Re: bypass valve for emissions?
Maybe... I just understanding the theory of a bypass, and is open when throttle blades close.. at idle your throttle blades would be closed.. I would say yes.. the bypass would be bypassing and putting air wherever.. but I don't know if it's enough to help you pass a test.. The stock air pump probably puts out more air, but if you had the both of them??? Then you might have enough of an increase of fresh..aka air.. Couldn't you tune your accel better to pass emissions? Are you running cats? You should be able if you have cats to tune your accel to pass emissions..
Re: bypass valve for emissions?
I run dual highflow cats with dual exhaust (no x or h pipe). No O2 sensor on passenger side. I can definitely put extra air in there without effecting the computer.
But, if the bypass valve is not open at light throttle conditions, then it's not worthwhile to try to route the bypass air to the exhaust. Oh well...
