Hi. I need to go ahead and start planning my engine buildup. What is it I need to look for. I plan on 550 at the wheels and then probably at least 650-750 at the wheels later.

Probably will go turbo+gas to get there. What kind of pistons am I looking at? As well as rods and crank. I am assuming a 4 bolt main block will hold. Probably will be stroked as well.

Whether it will last is more a function of assembly and avoiding detonation as well as a good oiling system than the parts selection.

Thats why I am having HPE assemble my 383 shortblock. They are going to use the following parts for mine:

Eagle Forged 3.75" crank
Eagle Forged H Beam 5.7" rods
4.03 JE -31cc forged pistons
Billet splayed 4 bolt caps
ARP studs and rod bolt upgrades

My goal was 700-750rwhp on 93 octane (383LTX with homemade PT76GTQ).

They will aslo be building a 383 for my boss' 67 camaro with the exact same forged components on his setup. He is planning on running a D1SC @ 13-15psi. Eagle compoenents wont have a problem with 700rwhp according to many people who have used them.

 

LOL, that's EXACTLY what popped into my head, in that order. Do those guys have that niche sewed up, or what?

The only thing different I was going to say is that those 585 gram Howard's PM rods sure are looking sweet, and right now they are only $600.

 

Well, if the parts will hold it and the rest is up to me, great.

Have any of you guys put one together that has held that kind of hp?

BTW, what kind of rwhp can be safely supported by the stock fuel setup?

Stock fuel setup is good for ~380-400rwhp (stock injectors, stock fuel pump and stock regulator). I plan on hitting 700rwhp and will try out the Walbro 255 intank (low pressure version though), Kenne Belle BAP, Aeromotive AFPR, AC Delco 72lb/hr injectors and stock fuel lines.
