Bov
Bov
hey guys, someone told me today that when i install my BOV, i cant vent it to air. they told me that i have to vent back before the blower. so i guess that i have to put vent it between the MAF and the blower. he said once the BOV lets the air out, air gets in while its closing and this air isnt metered by the MAF and therefore will result in a high a/f and most likely melt a piston! is this true? thanks guys
one thing i dont understand is if a MAF is so important, why does it before the blower? how does that make any sense? every S/C kit on the market is made to mount with the MAF before the blower. any thoughts. has anyone every mounted theirs after the blower?
Sure you can run the MAF on the pressure side. Many people do. I'm one.
What you want to avoid is measuring the air, then vent it to the atmosphere. The PCM measures the incoming air and adjusts fuel accordingly. Then you vent all of it. So what you have is a lot of fuel going in to the motor without the needed air to support any of it. You will run RICH when the valve vents. Bypass or BOV.
If you want to vent to the atm put the device BEFORE the MAF. This way any air bypassed to the atmosphere is not measured. Like LT1-TA said: From your compressor discharge you want BOV/BPV, then the MAF, then the throttle body. The only way to vent to atm is to have your MAF on the pressure side and to vent BEFORE it.
If you have a BOV/BPV after the MAF, like having the MAF on the inlet side of the compressor, then you have to recirculate it back into the system as do the standard Vortech kits, etc.
Advantage is to not run hot air back through the blower. Try a search for this.

I don't have any pics but it is pretty simple to do. I cut down the metal Vortech elbow just about to where the flow divider is to make room for the MAF. Maybe 2-3" off the end, just don't take off more than you want. You can re-use just about all of your hose clamps and silicon connectors. I think I cut one connector in half to make two. Then vent to the atm and plug the port in the blower inlet tube with a PVC plug.

Boosted Lt1 s spot on.....
and for what its worth...air is not going back in the BOV making the AF lean.....the metered air goes out the BOV and the AF goes pig rich causing a little stumble and what not
