Re: bottom end build prices?
You'll have about 700.00-1000.00 in block machine work if you want all the bells.
-Hot tanked, magged etc..
-Zero decked
-Splayed caps
-Line bored/honed
-Cylinder bore/hone w/plates
-Installed cam bearings, freeze plugs
If you plan to use a stock crank, I'd try to find one that just needs polishing. Otherwise if you have to get it ground and re-polished, it's almost better/cheaper to buy a cast Eagle or Scat crank for around 200.00.
Do you already have the other rotating parts?
Budget to have the rotating parts balanced, which could be anywhere from 100.00 to 250.00 depending how much mallory they need to use.
Then you'll need rings, oil pump, cam, timing chain etc.. that can all add up pretty quickly too. If you plan to assemble it yourself you can save about 100-200.00 over having a machine shop assemble it.
If you're patient you can find used parts which can substantially reduce the overall cost. I currently have my block, Eagle Hbeam rods and forged JE blower pistons and I have less than 650.00 into them but I still need a crank and the other parts, not to mention machine work. I'm trying to keep it under 1700.00 for the complete shortblock, but I'm keeping the 2 bolt and adding some ARP studs.

Re: bottom end build prices?
btw..im not really on a budget..if i was i wouldnt be doing a turbo car..im just tryin to get a base figure on how much im gonna be shellin out..i want the strongest block possible
Re: bottom end build prices?
All your machine work done:
either a 4 bolt main block or get splayed mains(4 bolt block is cheaper usually) will be a must
Depending on machine shops it can run $500-$1500.
Then you need:
hellfire rings(file fit)
arp rod bolts
arp main studs
rear main seal gasket
timing chain cover gasket
oil pan gasket
oil pump
Oil pump pickup
main bearings and rod bearings
Don't forget your going to need
Head gaskets (I'd say felpro 1074 for that power level)
arp head studs(make sure you install correctly or they will leak)
header gaskets
collector gaskets
water pump gasket
Intake gasket
Whats the rest of your setup going to look like to achieve 800hp and is that going to be rwhp?

Re: bottom end build prices?
I'd invest in a set of Cometic head gaskets for an 800 hp motor. I bought them for my 383 T trim project. As for the caps, Oliver all the way. I did mine straight up instead of at an angle at the recomendation of the guy building the motor. Figure the caps themselves are around $230 and the stud kit is going to cost you another $110. Installing them usually runs from $400 to $600 dollars in addition to the rest of the machine work. You should probably check into having the motor partially filled for added strength.
Re: bottom end build prices?
well from what i hear about this turbo..i should be easily over 900RW...and cometic is the only choice ill be going with...i hear joeO builds motors...i gotta find a way to get a hold of him..see what he thinks...i also heard i should hardblock it 50%...makes it more solid..i dont mind spending an extra 1500 or so to get the bottom end built..and built right
Re: bottom end build prices?
So now your expecting easily over 900rwhp? Not too many guys here who have accomplished that so I hope you have deep pockets and all the right parts, not just parts thrown together. Their is a big difference between 800 crank HP and 900+rwhp. Also you planning on doing this on pump gas or is it going to be strictly race gas. Is it a street car or only a track car and what are your goals(et/mph/60ft) with the car?
Care to share more info on all your mods to get the 900+rwhp and what type of fuel system you plan on running?
Also you going to be doing most of the work or having a shop do it?

Re: bottom end build prices?
did you hear about that PTK car makin 987 at the wheels at 23psi..on stock heads? im doing afr head, forged crank, billet rods, and ross pistons which ross says are good to 30psi of boost. also...the fuel system, and engine management will easily support this. And its going to be a street car but i just want a number basically...so it would be on race gas with alk.injection...then just another tune for pump gas prolly at around 14-16psi...the car will be able to handle it...lets just see if the turbo can make the power. And i plan on having a shop build the engine..but im going to do most of the rest.final price is expected to be around 20k.
Re: bottom end build prices?
If you're just after a number, why not just use a big shot of nitrous? It would be much cheaper and easier to do. It would also run fine on the street. Not to mention it would probably save you $13k.
