Boosted Engine Life

Okay I had to get a new longblock for my car. I bought a stock bottom end with stock compression and fully rebuilt. I swapped out the cam and valve train for a blower cam and top end. I know that the CR is still high for boost. My plan is to build a custom rear mount with 5 psi. Stay 5 psi to keep the DD status alive. I have upgraded fuel pump and 42.5lb injectors. What should I buy to upgrade the ignition like a mallory 685 or anything like that. I know to change to tr6 plugs. Dyno Tune.

So the question is with 5 psi. Perfect running order and tune how much will adding the turbo kill my new engines life?

When did you have the engine rebuilt? How many miles are on the new engine? I have been running 8 psi on my stock lt1 (put blower on at 55,000 miles, car now has 61,000) and have not run into any problems...but then again im in colorado and elevation here is 5700 ft above sea level. i think the guys who are having trouble and what not are the guys at sea level running more than 6-8 psi...uncorrected, i would probably only see 350-360 whp at this altitude, which is pretty safe IMO...it falls mostly on the tune and how you drive the car. I beat on my car all the time, and am getting 0 detonation. Run good gas, get a DYNO tune with some ignition retard, and you should be ok...why are you wanting to do a rear mount? You allready have a blower cam, i would get a vortech s trim or ati p1sc and run low boost...just my .02

The motor has 0 miles on it now. I havent taken it out since installing it. I had a d1sc on the old motor but sold it to do a turbo so now I'm set on the turbo but I wanna keep this a DD. I want to get atleast 50-60k outta this motor with 5 psi. Its going to be a safe setup maybe 350-400 hp about the same as a h/c car. Ill pry do a front mount intercooler as well just to be safe.

Then why not just do a H/C package? For what its worth...go with a front mount turbo setup..i rode in a buddies ls1 ta with an STS kit on it at 5psi, and it was lackluster to say the least...it will cost you more to put a front mount together, but it will be worth it..with a fmic and 5psi, you will be ok...but if it we up to me, id take a blower, h/c, front mount turbo or a nitrous shot over a rear mount setup anyday...

Im going to fab up the rear mount myself as a winter project. Im not going for tons of power and i do already have the blower cam. Just alittle extra passing power. Like I said the d1sc wasnt what I wanted I tired it and didnt like.

Ditto. It would be foolish to not put in some forged pistons and good rings while you have it out.

I just got the motor put in there. Too late to take it out right now. Maybe if I get bored this winter.
