Boost w/ 11:1 CR

Is it possible? 383 stroker with 11:1 CR. Eagle cast crank, speedpro pistons and rings. Would it be possible to run 5-6lbs boost (Vortech v2 or similar) saftely? Looking for opinions here. Thanks guys

I wouldn't do it. 11:1 is too high to run boost IMHO.

If you ran a FMIC, water injection, and never did a pull through 4th gear, you might be able to keep cylinder temps/ pressure down to a moderate level, but if you are into boost for a prolonged period of time, I think you would have piston issues.

This is from experience on a 10.8:1 Probe with forged bottom end and 8 psi.

Possible yes, safe? no.

Its only half a point higher than stock. And we are talking forged part, but it will be very unforgiving. Don't build a nitrous motor to run a 50 shot. Don't build a boost motor to run 5#. Plan your package from the beginning and know your goals.

I say just spray the snot out of what you've got. 100 Shot would net you what that 5-6psi would. 200 shot would be far more.

I wouldn't want run that CR with a boosted application. Throw in some different pistons.

change pistons or see what your CR would be with a set of Trickflow's or another head (if there is one) with larger combustion chambers. Going from 54cc - 64cc should lower CR a fair amount. You want to be in the 8-9 range.

might work with a really big cam and good intercooler

I'll take a different approach and say that 6psi of intercooled boost is deemed 'okay' per Vortech or Procharger etc on a stock LT1 @ 10.5:1 with cast pistons. If you want to run an 11:1 static compression ratio with a good forged piston, good gas, water/methonal inj., safe tune then you should be alright. Watch the A/F ratio and run it!

You're going to start to run into detonation sooner and may not have the room to grow. But even Procharger MARKETS a kit at, I believe, 8psi for a stock 10.5:1 LT1. They could not sell that if it crashed every 10.5:1 cast piston motor.

yeah i thought so. I'll probably just keep it the way it is for right now and throw a bigger cam in there.

I ran my 383 @ 11:1 with 14# non intercooled and no meth injection. On good fuel it ran like a scalded ape, but on pump gas I found my self buying 2 new blocks before I learned to buy dished pistons. so it can be bone but wouldn't advise it. 5# probably would have never gave me too many fits but once you get the feel of boost your going to want more.

10:8:1 here bone stock bottom 11psi done it for the past year no problems just got to keep up on it.at 5psi on the same motor made 550rwhp 490rwtq at just 5psi letting off before 5900 rpm didnt want to spin a bearing and was able to best of 7.0 @ 108mph in my 2ton beast.
i should add intercooled and methed..

Sure... run it on race gas and no timing all its life... or better yet alcohol

stock lt1 here, lots of meth(thanks alkycontrol),big fmic, rich tune, 17 deg timing (for now) might creep it up to about 20 degs once i get a nice buffer of money for a rebuild.

8 psi

goes through the beams in 4th gear A4

Whats everybody running for timing with these high cr or stock motors + boost?

Find out if it can be done. Everything is possible, but I would want a car that I wouldn't be afraid to hit the gas when screwing around with one of my friends. If you have to think "Will it blow up today?" when you are running through 2nd gear, will it be fun for you?

P.S. I would run nitrous until I could drop the compression down.
