boost retard ignition box

how does an ignition box with a boost retard work with our 1 bar maps? or do you have to upgrade to a 2 or 3 bar and scale all the tables accordingly? or is it just best to tune the computer for boost and not bother with boost retard function?

Re: boost retard ignition box

The best way is to tune for boost. I still use the retard function even though I'm tuned for boost as my tuning doesn't account for an occasional shot on nitrous . I just dial in a half degree retard per pound of boost (verified on the dyno)...my Crane ignition system includes a pressure transducer that senses boost levels.

hey OB1, has your crane caused any problems with your wires going bad early?

my wires went bad only a few hundred miles after the supercharger install with the crane ignition w/boost retard

just wondering if the stock ac delco wires can be damaged by the cranes spark.

I'm running Accel 9000 wires and have never had any issues with wires failing. I have 30K miles on the current set. Prior to the supercharger/Crane ignition, I ran the stock GM wires with a MSD 6A ignition box, no issues.
