boost gauge

I have a 96 LT1 396 with a D1SC that I just got the car running. The boost gauge does not read boost when I'm into the throttle, but it does read manifold vacuum at an idle. Do I have it hooked up wrong? Thanks Lee

Re: boost gauge

if its reading vacuum it should show boost, where do you have it hooked to? I ran a T on mine off the fuel regulator.

Re: boost gauge

The engine won't see boost till wide open throttle with most centrigual superchargers with bypass valves. Are you wide open throttle and still not seeing boost?

Re: boost gauge

is this in neutral/park? or on the road and under loaded condistions?.. it is tough to show significant boost when the engine is not loaded.. it revs too quickly for a restriction to occur so it in fact ingests the air pressure as it is being made.. you may see small blips around 2-3 pounds but ya have to rev the hell out of it. if this is the case.... take her for a spin and see if that makes a difference!

Re: boost gauge

Under wide open throttle it shows nothing. 1st 2nd and 3rd gears nothing. I have it hooked into a port in the intake. Thanks Lee

Re: boost gauge

depending on how much boost youre running, you may not show actual pressure until 4k+. are you sure you put the supercharger belt back on

Re: boost gauge

Sounds like you got something hooked up wrong. Pull the intake tract off the throttle body, disconnect the MAF sensor and start the car, you should have air coming out the intake tract, a lot of it.

Re: boost gauge

Your bypass valve may not be closing therefore you won't build up boost.

Re: boost gauge

I talked to Bryan at PCMforless. He is going to fine tune the car at the begining of june. He said that I may have a bad gauge. So I'm going to check that tonight. Thanks Lee

Re: boost gauge

What does your gauge read at idle? If it's 15 - 17" of vacuum, chances are your gauge is good.

What exact boost gage do you have? I am just curious.

Re: boost gauge

I have an auto meter gauge. It has 10 lb of vacuum at idle. I put compressed air though the line to the gauge today and it went up to 30 pounds with no problem. What next? Thanks Lee

Re: boost gauge

The bypass valve should be closed without vacuum and be open with vacuum right? Thanks Lee

Re: boost gauge

I think you need to remove your engine and transmission and rebuild both of them completely.
