BLOWN & SPRAYED 383. Need Help!!!

I posted this in engine tech but though I'd get more replies here

Ok this is what I have : 4 bolt block, camel hump heads,870 street avenger carb, 142 weiand blower and everything I need to have it put on. Looking to put out 6pds?

Now I was wondering what kind of pistons, rods, crank, cam, ect I should run in it. I want to spray 100 shot of nitrous (nx kit). Where do i start? This will be droped in a 77 camaro with a turbo 400 tranny with manual valve body, 3500 stall, and a 10 bolt 8.5 rearend what gears should i run on the rearend?. This car will be driven in town fri and sat nights only and will be taken to the track every now and then. No highway driving or daily driven.

4340 Forged would be your best bet, and save a good piece of mind. For the price the eagle stuff cant be beat. as for gears, its hard to say.

Re: BLOWN & SPRAYED 383. Need Help!!!

Everything in the rotating assembly should be forged, 4340 as stated above. I like the eagle stuff for crank and rods and SRP forged pistons. There are other brands that make some better stuff ( I'll go ahead and say it for Rich) Callies dragonslayer crank, Lunati pro mod rods, and JE blower pistons for around 300.00 to 400.00 more, so your budget will help you decide which to go with. I bought my stuff from CNC motorsports, with my purchase there was some shipping delays, but overall my experience with them was good and they have about the best prices I found on-line. My rortating assembly included an Eagle forged 4340 crank, eagle H-beam rods, SRP forged pistons with a 24 cc dish, total seal rings, main and rod bearings, and they had the rotating assembly balanced all for 1700.00. I like the 355 set-up with a 5.7 rod to keep the pistons crowns as thick as possible, but if you wanted to go with a 383 the price difference is negligable, the only real additional costs of a 383 is having the block clearanced for the stroker crank. For cam choice I would recommend getting something with a 114 lobe seperation angle, most cam companies have a complete selection of "blower cams" that will suit your needs. I run 4.56 gears in my 81 Camaro with a TH400, I drive it 15 miles on the interstate to get to our local racetrack, and do limited street driving with it, I have to run at 4000 RPM to go about 60 to 65 MPH, (no speedo so I don't know exactly how fast). 3.73's would probly be a better choice if you're going to drive it very much, but I don't have any problems with the 4.56's.

I think I am becoming a broken record!

Callies "Dragonslayer" or Lunati "Sledgehammer" crank
Lunati "Pro Mod" rods
JE "blower" pistons

No ChiCom crap in my motors

That actually isn't what I have now. Presently, I have the Sledgehammer with some extra profiling done on the counterweights, Oliver billet rods and the JE pistons.

Rich, will you please explain the additional profiling on the sledge hammer. What is the profiling worth(cost)? -Thank you.
