i'd also o-ring the block with receiver groove in the heads......maybe the splayed four bolt main caps.....stronger is a good thing when we all get greedy

the stock blocks and carnk are good for around 550 to 600 flywheel horsepower. there are a lot of people that are doing more. but that is a safe high end i would push. the 383 kit is a great kit that you will enjoy. either cam would work

Yea, I may drop a little boost but I can't afford to upgrade to the D1SC - especially after this rebuild - I may drop down 1lb - 2lbs.

How steetable do you think this cam will be - I run a 2800 stall converter. I want something that makes good power down low - and i dont want to have wind it up past ~6300. Anyone have experience with a cam this size?

See my cardomain site - made 440/475 with issues on 7lbs of boost. Stock bottom end, GTP 4 camshaft, stock untouched heads, bolt ons.

That cam is definatly going to want more stall, will lope hard, and will probably surge pretty good. Definatly would have to wind it higher than 6300 on a 350. A 383 will eat up some of the RPM's but Id imagine that still would have to go to at least 6500ish on a 383.

Well, I can't believe it was 9/07 when I started down this road -- but I FINALLY finished the motor, broke it in, tuned it myself (taught myself how to do it....with a lot of help from folks online...), and dyno'd it today:

449RWHP and 468RWTQ!!

I started with a target of 450HP - that is about as close as it gets!!

This thing is a blast to drive!!! Car actually has very good manners on the road - But I CANT stick it to the ground - time to get a set of drag radials!!

Here is my final build/change summary:
SCAT 4340 Forged Crank
SCAT 6" H Beam Rods
JE Forged 170817 Pistons - ~9.5.1 compression
Total Seal rings
Comp Cams 576/570, 230/236, 113 lsa
Comp Cams lifters
Comp springs
Canton pan
Summit 58mm throttle body
Melling MEL-10552C
Pacesetter LT headers
Magnaflow Hi Flow Cats (converted to duals)
Dynomax muffler

I did not touch the heads in this build. I have previously ported/matched/polished the heads and intake.

Only problem I have is that my 600B only makes a max of 6lbs of boost now with the larger cam and displacement - i built this motor to handle a lot more - easily another 100+HP in there if I could get a
D1SC!

Hope to get to the dragstrip in ~1 month to see how this thing does!

Sounds like a nice setup. You should make a write up in the "Forced induction and the LT1" sticky to help out some of the newbs. You would have liked the CC304. The midrange and low end torque is incredible....

I agree. Seems there are a lot of questions about rotating assemblies/setups etc for this type of power level.

I might write this one up.....I have been working on this setup little by little since October 2005 - I have learned a lot along the way - knowing what I know now.....I could have gotten here in 1/2 the time for a lot less money I think...thx for the vote of confidence.

As far as the 304 - I looked at that cam, but was a little small for what I wanted to do -

CC 304: (w/1.6) 533/544, 210/220, 114 lsa

CC467-8 (My Cam) 576/570, 242/248, 113 lsa

If my trial subscription to engine analyzer pro had not expired I would run a sim to see the difference......this is a GREAT program for those that have not used it......it was very close to predicting the final performance of my engine - I used it to pick my final cam (CC actually suggested the CC468-8, but EA Pro predicted the horsepower did not peak until ~6500, and I did not want to have to rev my motor that high). I would love to buy the program but it is a little pricey for me right now.....~$450.00.

My blower motor really responded well to the CC304. The engine was a little sluggish down low with the CC503 on a 112. With all the drag the blower places on the motor I chose a cam that peaks a little lower to help torque down low.
