A local shop has had this problem on 2 different LT1 cars. They ended up putting the Fel-Pro's on it and have never had a problem since. I'm switching to the 1074's this weekend.
had a similar problem....just have to make sure you put sealant all the way in the corners and let it cure 24h and you should be good to go !

i run cometics also, i had problems with leaking oil in between head and block, that was because i didnt have proper evac system, once that was fixed all the oil leaks stoped. My builder did use copper spray on them as well. As far as Felpros go i know that Sykora ran those into the 8s Just FYI

just pulled the heads, and the very center stud on the driver side was seeping. There are marks on the under side of the gasket, and i pulled the stud to find it covered in oil and coolant. The same stud on the passenger side was dry.

and i was corrected by my freind, i did use the GM paste type sealent...he knew because it was his sealent that i used

I think im going to try the SCE titan gaskets this time...even though i dont think this was the cometics fault, im still weary of them...

..but all the pistons and cylinder walls look okay, i was a little worried after it injested that much water. The one piston where the leak was is washed almost completely clean on top.

Still not sure why you think you need anything other than the Fel Pro, but good luck anyway.

If you do use the SCE gaskets, make sure to re-torque the heads after a heat cycle. I did that and have had no problems... A lot of import guys have reported leaks if you don't re-torque them after the first heat cycle.

Ive heard of the fel pros failing at higher boost levels. I plan to take this setup to about 22psi. I've heard no for sure answer that the fel pros can handle this kind of pressure (i know nothing is for sure in this game, but you know what i mean). Thats getting around 3hp/cubic inch. I've read to go to a mls or copper gasket after 2hp/cubic inch.

The MLS gaskets will seal higher boost levels than you will ever see on a gasser, we use them on 100+ psi diesel drag motors with no problems. The issue is that most shops don't have the equipment or knowledge on how to properly prepare a surface for the MLS gaskets.

Mine are good at 26psi.

I thought i was set on the SCE's, but Rich, your opinion means alot to me...i guess i'll give the fel pros a try, i just do not want to tear down this thing again any time soon. What is the compressed thickness of the fel pros? These are the 1074's were talking about right?

They will work fine (the #1074 is correct, it is 0.039"). But any gasket will fail if not installed correctly and if there is excessive detonation. On a street motor, it's better to have the gasket go than something harder and more expensive to replace. On a blower car, if good gaskets are failing, there is probably detonation and the gasket is saving the motor. Fix the detonation and the gasket problem goes away. Gaskets will also fail due to insufficient clamp load (defective or improperly tightened head bolts) or warped surfaces (head or block deck).
