Angry Blown Cometic MLS head gasket

I've been driving the Camaro as a daily driver all summer, getting around 17mpg, endless power, and could not ask for more out of a street car (especially with the megasquirt II and the 160 lb./hr. injectors). Last week she kept running hot, and kept eating coolant, then i found my PCV catch can filled to the brim with coolant. So, needless to say i'm pretty upset, the boost has been turned down lately to about 5.5 psi, so i am unsure of what may have caused a blown head gasket. But, they are the Cometic MLS gaskets, which are very tempermental to sealing...so...

Anyway, pulled the motor today, tear down will begin shortly. I did pull the intake to find a coolant/oil gray mixture of nastyness coating the underside of the intake.

I'm thinking of trying the Flatout Saberseal MLS gaskets since this is the second time the Cometics have leaked on me. Anyone have any experience with these? (and yes, my machine shop does have the proper equipment to meet Cometics finish requirements)

ohh and BTW, NEW style comp R lifters....all 16 still intact, now counting about 10k miles on them.

took some pictures of the motor out of the car... enjoy

no problems here...put down 700rwhp and been driving the car all summer long with the a/c on

Did u coat your gaskets with copper before puttin them on? I ususally blow a piston before the gasket goes ehe

maybe its not even the gasket, but one of your head studs is leaking?
i just dont see why they would start leakin all the sudden, esp leak inside...seems like everyone complains about them leakin a little bit outside

Why try to reinvent the wheel? Use the Fel Pro.

What kinda boost can the fel pro handle? This car sees 17psi on pump gas, and more to come in the future on race fuel.

I used the arp thread sealent on the studs...it could be one of them, but i dont see why a stud would just start leaking either?

there is traces of coolant on the outside surface of the head and block on the driver side.

I have heard of high teens on the felpros, but dont have any experience yet.

Good luck with it Will. Mine has idled in the driveway a few times now on megasquirt, glad you pointed me in that direction. A few more bugs and I'll be back on the road.

I have the Cometics on mine. They are not leaking coolant (I don't believe so), but they are leaking OIL extremely bad from all four corners where the head gasket meets the intake gasket/end rail.

A local shop has had this problem on 2 different LT1 cars. They ended up putting the Fel-Pro's on it and have never had a problem since. I'm switching to the 1074's this weekend.

so no word on the flatout mls gaskets? The outer layers are coated in a rubber for better coolant sealing. Im just a little weary of trying the fel-pros since the car will be seeing upwards of 20 psi.
