Blower eng combo ??? HELP

What is the better way to go for me with my eng combo

My heads are 53cc
if i go 355 with a 5,85 rod je/srp -31 zero deck the block and a .040 head gasket i will get about 8:7.1

everything is going to be 4340 so i would like to go to a 383 BUT a 383 will give me a 9:4.1 with these heads to much...

I am putting alot of money into this block, zero deck, 4 bolt, hone, ......I would like to keep this block for a few re builds and see if i can save money not haveing to do all this block work over again...or i could just get custom pistons....

Ok should keep in mind trying to save money here Should i
-get custom pistons
-sell my heads and get bigger chambered heads
- or just do a 355 and swap out heads down the road to drop CR..and at rebuild time put a stroker crank in.....

Need help talking to eng builder soon..

What are your goals? Compression is not as important as the fact that you have forged pistons. Lots of guys use 9.5:1 compression on boosted motors, it all depends on what your goal is.

For pump gas and high boost I'd stay away from the higher compression combo. You won't notice any difference between a 383 and a 355.

My goal as of right now is to put down over 600 to the wheels...i want big power ....It will take me a year to get there as i will need some way to cool down the air...

What about $$$ on the block, can i go .40 over when time comes

With a blower motor, you want as much cylinder wall as you can get. .010" over or .020" over would be best. perhaps .030" over for more off-the-shelf parts... but again, the more cylinder wall the better.

You could step up to a 383 later, but then you will not only need a new crank, but a new cam, new tune, etc etc etc. The cost of swapping cranks later isnt worth it compared to the the cost difference to do it once. Eagle, for example, has a pretty good kit for it's price, and the difference between a 355 and 383 isnt much. Make your decision now and do it once.

600rwhp can be done with boost on a 355. It can be done on a 383. It just depends on what you want out of it past the 600rwhp mark. (700? 800? 1400)

You can lower the compression and also leave room for future rebuilds by NOT zeroing the deck. Only take off enough to square it all up. Cheating but it works!
8.5-9.5 is fine with the reverse cooling, but will take some tuning to reach 600 RWHP on pump gas.

I was thinking of leaving the piston in the hole , but this will afect my quench...trying to hit .040, with leaving the piston in the hole will the not lead to spark knock....

Can you leave the piston in the hole..

Re: Blower eng combo ??? HELP

I did 650 to the rollers on pump gas this year with my 355. You need to really pay attention to the little details. You never want to build a engine for max power with the idea of...( just in case i need to rebuild it i want to leave some room.) The rod length isn't going to make or break the combo either, I do it with 5.7 so i can have a thicker piston and my rings lower.
Things that you need to do:
Sell your heads and get a good flowing set. I use AFR 210's but you could get close with the 195's.
I would run a little compression seeing how your heads will run cooler than mine 9- 9.5 no more.
You need to be a real good tuner no more timing than 24* at 14lbs boost.
camshaft design is also critical you need to be 114-115lsa.
BIG intercooler
You will aslo need at least a D series procharger or equivalent. anything smaller and you will have the air so beat up you will never get your IAT's down low enough to keep out of detonation.

My buddies 383 / afr195 does 565rwhp @ 5800rpm with a 4l80 on pump gas also.
here click on the gallery and look at the cutlass and monte.

At the hands of a skilled porter, the 195's can get close to the 210's, but out-the-box, they're way behind.
