Blow off valve question
can I just buy a turbo bov and put it on my procharger set up ( with the flanged aluminum tubbing) Just curious... the bov I got with the procharger is a piece of shizer... thanks.
The BOV on turbo systems work differently than the bypass valve on supercharged set ups. A BOV will surge at idle on a supercharger, you need to get a Bypass valve designed for a supercharger.
I ran a HKS blow-off after the MAF. Had surging oproblems and car ran very rich. I ended up with 2 valves from Evolution motor sports (bypass type $120 each) This solved all of my surge problems. I do like the poppet valve style (seals very good) on the HKS. So, I re-machined the valve to a bypass type.
i thought the same too. I've researched that the bypass and blow off valve do the same thing under idle/no boost. but if you have a maf you have to recirc. both if it's after the maf.
A bypass is normally open, a BOV is normally closed. They both open with vacuum assist, but the BOV requires a certain amount of pressure in the system before it opens, so thats why it surges. The BOV will vent the pressurized air then close again till the pressure builds up enough to open it again. If you've ever heard one on a supercharged car you can hear it opening and closing repeatedly.
