Bigger then a T76

A GT42r is bigger then a T76 right?

If I wanted to throw a turbo in my car thats bigger then a T76... how much custom fabbing is involved to one to fit? Or at that point is it better to go with a twin setup?

the 42r is alot bigger than a t76, and has a smaller hot side as well. cant tell ya about the fabbing though, Ive only put a 42r on a talon and it was a pain.

Re: Bigger then a T76

A GT42 can be had in a 70mm, 74mm or 76mm version and the R means ball bearing. Without the R it is a standard bearing. The GT4202 (76mm version) will make ~1100fwhp with the T4 housing or 1200fwhp with the T6 housing. I have the T6 one for sale and the housings make it a much bigger turbo then a regular Precision/turbonetics/innovative t76. I am selling my GT4202 T76 with T6 1.15 A/r turbine housing. The big T6 housing allows for less backpressure on 383+ci motors. It has a 5" inlet on the compressor housing and I think a 3.5" outlet. The Turbine has a 5" DP outlet. FYI, no reserve and a few hours left on ebay.

You can get it to fit no problem if you are making your kit. If you are buying a premade kit that will take up to a T76 T4 turbo, then the GT42 is still to physically big. The DP outlet is larger and you will run into fitment issues due to the enormouse size of the turbo. This turbo is perfect for someone building their own kit.

Are you refering to wheel dimensions or housing?

We are talking about a GT4202 (76mm inducer 102mm exducer comp. wheel) and an 82mm turbine wheel. The R is just ball bearing, so we can leave that out of the comparison.

The standard Precision T76GTS has a 81.2mm turbine wheel (almost same as GT42) and the same compressor weel size. The wheels are pretty much the same, its the larger housings on the GT42 that make it different.

They list Garrett and Precision turbo dimensions... http://www.precisionturbo.net/turboc...tegory_id=3027

So all in all the GT4202r and T76GTS are pretty much the same turbo but the GT4202r has a bigger housing?

What is the flange setup on a T76? T4 right?

Just trying to figure if it's better for me to go a step bigger with a turbo and give the turbo some head room when running high boost. Plus give it the opponent a bigger scare when he sees the biggest turbo of his life. haha

The wheels (compressor/turbine) measure out to pretty much the same size, however the compressor and turbine husing dwarf the T76GTS in every way. I will post a pic tonight of a the GT42 next to a T67 (it has the same size turbine housing as a T76...so you can atleast see the difference in turbine housings)

Here are a couple links. The first one shows a MPT70 versus the GT42. The second link shows size of GT42 versus soda can.

Re: Bigger then a T76

Chris, here is a GT4202 (T76) versus a standard T4 T67. The turbine housing on the T67 is the same size as a standard T4 T76 (turbonetcis, precision, etc.), but the T67's compressor housing is a little smaller. Check out the difference though (GT42 is huge).

Re: Bigger then a T76

So if you want 1,200 fwhp and are concerned with space then why dont you just go with a modified T-76GTS( 80mm upgrade). It will make that easily and fit much better then the 42. Im going with the 80mm and will be more then pleased with 1,000rwhp.

Cant go by rwhp ratings only...

The GT42's have have turbine A/r's much higher than the precision T76GTS (.96 max). My Gt42 has a 1.15A/r, which helps cutdown backpressure on decent size engines. You should be ok for a 355ci, but if you want a 383ci or more, I doubt you even come close to 1000rwhp with a T76GTS (or 80mm GTS due to its turbine) on a 383ci or bigger. Probably closer to 800-850rwhp.

Why? Just to say you have one that's bigger???

This just doesnt sound like well thought out reasoning... just curious.

The potential to get more hp whenever I need it. That's the main reason... plus the bigger turbo is always an eye grabber to myself more then anyone else. haha

I am sooo power hungry that I want a 1000whp daily driver.

Drive around on like 3-5lbs then bump it up to like 625 on 12 for pump... then whatever for C16!

Re: Bigger then a T76

FYI...

I bought the GT42 off a mustang owner who ran 155mph @20psi in the 1/4 mile with stang that weighed 3300# with an auto! He guessed it made 900rwhp thru the auto. That would have been pretty damn close to 1000rwhp with a manual tranny.
