balancer suggestions

ok i did a search on this but didn't come up with what i was looking for. i am getting ready to install a fresh 383 and will be running the P1SC and need to know which dampner is recomended or would the stock one be ok to have balanced with the bottom end? also would there be any machining to get an aftermarket balancer to fit the blower pulley or do they mate right up?

The stock one will work fine, but you need a keyway machined. Thunder racing sells them for 75 bucks with core.

after reading both of these threads im still not sure why you have to have a keyed hub, what does it do. Why would the crank snap if the tensioner is working properly. how much boost on average can you run before you have a chance of a forged crank snaping?

You need to have a keyed hub because the tension being put on the crank will tend to spin the hub and cause the bolt to back out.. Having the key in place stops the hub from spinning..

You're right, if the tensioner isnt a POS stock ATI Tensioner that comes with the Procharger kits for our cars, it should work fine..

I don't think there is an average amount of boost you can run before snapping the crank, the problem I was having was that the tensioner was putting way too much strain on the crank.. I had to tension the belt so much to get it not to slip that it was putting over 500 lbs of pressure on the front of the crank.. That is what caused mine to snap ..
