anyone running 6'' rods on their blown application?

Well i've been kickin around the idea of just bolting on an intake mounted s/c for ****s and giggles a lot lately.

getting a GTP blower, another intake manifold and with some help from my friend and a lack of hood- could be fun for a few drag strip passes at 6psi or so Not bad for about $300 anyway

my only concern is the 6'' rods in a 383...

I don't think the M90 would be the best choice for a 383.

M90? i'm guessing thats the blower? n problby not the best choice, but it would be fun to run for a day at the strip to see what happens. and it would cost me next to nothing... i've just felt compelled to do this for some STRANGE reason. Kind of like that time I...wait never mind

I'm aslo asking because i an debating a "real" blown setup in my car while i'm doing a head swap... but the 6'' rods are scaring me

I am in the process of putting my new 383 with a Vortech & Aftercooler in with 8lbs. boost in my 94Z. I went with the 6" rods on advive from my engine builder. There supposed to help get a little more power because of the little bit longer your at TDC. It will probably be a couple of weeks till I fire it up (waiting on AS&M Headers)

You just dont get blown in a day. Many other things to look at other than mounting the blower. 383 with what kind of fuel system, and compression. You need to get another tune. It never stops just put a 100 shot on and be done. Trey you should know all of this... Rods will not be a problem. Its the detonation factor.

As far as I know these are some drawbacks:

Longer dwell time at TDC causes increased cylinder pressure. This means there is an increased risk of detonation.

A shorter piston pin height (the effect of using a 6"rod over a shorter 5.7") means the ring lands are weaker, that is if the ring pack is pushed closer togeter (which I believe is the case).

This doesn't nessesarily mean you will detonate or break ring lands because of this (the longer rod). But I would consider what ever comp. ratio you are running and if you can make sure to get enough fuel.

i never said it was going to happen in a day

9.8ish : 1 is fine for 6lbs of boost...

i'm sure i could turn up the fuel pressure enough to supply enough fuel...

tuning is a given
i'm all about tuning

i know about dwell at TDC, i was concerned about high wrist pins and weak pistons....

I would imagine you would probably LOSE power with a that blower. no way could it make 6psi on your motor

The wrist pins in JE pistons I'm using with the 6" rods are lower in the piston so I shouldn't have any ring problems.

^^^^ ..yea it usually takes a couple dinners and movies and some charm..but anyway, don't do a ghetto blown set up for 300 bucks. If you're gonna go blower, go all the way. Then might as well add on a shot of nitrious as stated above. It'd really suck to see a nice stroker motor drive like poop from a wimpo blower set up.

Just offering my opnion.

I believe Rooster93 just did such a conversion using an m112 blower do a search for his name on this board as well as advanced tech and you'll find the post I'm refering to.
Hey if I got the name wrong someone correct me, thanks.

everyone's right.. an M90 might be ok for a couple psi on a stock lt1, but after that I wouldn't be using one. Heck they become a restriction too quickly on a 3.8L V6!
