any advantage to keeping downpipes seperate longer?
any advantage to keeping downpipes seperate longer?
im about to tackel the task of making a twin turbo setup for my lt1 Z28, and at first i wanted to run two downpipes under the headers to meet up with my mufflex y pipe from my longtubes, but after some thought, would it matter if i joined the two downpipes in front of the motor, and then run one pipe on the driver side, cross over, and meet up with my catback. i will be using 3 inch downpipes, and my catback is 3 inches, along with my y pipe, so would it make a difference since its all 3 inch tubing? would there be an advantage to keeping the downpipes seperate longer going to my y pipe? or will it all be the same since its eventually going to a single 3 inch tube anyway?
the reason i want to do this is because if i run my alternator where my AC compressor is, i will have alot more room for my passenger side header, but if the alternator is down there, i dont think i will have enough room for a passenger side downpipe

Ok, let me get this correct. You wanna run a twin turbo setup, into a 'Y' exhaust? Of the same size dia., to yet? Well, to each their own, I 'spose. Why not, just run a single turbo then?

whats wrong with that? ive seen lots of twin setups run two 3 inch DPs into a 3 inch exhaust...how else would you do it? ...im running twins because they will be easier to find a place for them instead of one huge single...plus, twins are cooler

well i plan on running a cutout, and it is still a street car, im running two t-70's on a 9:1 355 with ported heads and cam, and im only looking for 650-700rwhp, so every bit of power isnt that important, i was just curious about whether or not it mattered if i kept the downpipes seperate longer
Re: any advantage to keeping downpipes seperate longer?
Man, I must have my turbo sizes mixed up. Harlan's turbo's are t66's, and they were big enough to go 171mph... t70's I figured would be huuuge.

thats just the compressor wheel trim size...since my exhaust housing is a t3 with a t3 wheel...it will spool faster than a full t4, but not make as much peak HP...both are capable of 650, but im not shooting for any more than 750, so i can be a little conservative
