Age old question (Deciding on piston)

Well I had SRP pistons but those where sold so I can upgrade to a better piston. My questions are... I had the machine work done for .030SRP pistons but sizes varies I thing the biggest was .032 I can't quite remember. Also upon doing research I've decided to go ahead and go with splayed mains and do a 1/4 fill on the block. So can I get away with ordering another set of .030 over pistons or should I go bigger like .035. I called the machine shop and told me that I could probably get away with .030 over pistons. But I want to make sure before I pull the trigger and order some...
Which is the best pistons to handle 15 #'s of boost? And what did they set you back... I have already been quoted $850.00 for diamond pistons and total seal rings. Are there any others out there that will handle this amount of boost

Is Mahles new one out yet? (see thread below yours)

Honestly I am running the srps and they are fines (so far) with mild boost levels. They have seen 18psi a few times and are holding up.

JE makes some nice forced induction friendly pistons, but have a better selection for 6" rods rather than 5.7" rods. A piston made from 2618 alloy (low silicon content) is more desirable for boosted applications as they are more "forgiving". The SRP pistons are comprised of a 4032 alloy. Here is a link to JE's F.I. pistons: http://www.jepistons.com/cat/je/auto...y_23_inv.shtml

I would get a diamond 2618 piston but be aware that you might get some piston slap at startup because they require a bit more cylinder wall clearance.

I'm running the JE 131631 in my 383 on a 5.7 rod. No problems so far (but I prefer to run a little to the rich side rather than lean).

JE -28cc 2618 piston (4.030") with a 6" long rod. Since I had small chamber heads (58cc), I stayed with 383ci. displacement.

What the price diff. In JE and Diamond. I have heard alot of good things about both, But I have not heard anyone going through a set of diamond pistons. I need something for 3.480 crank and 5.7 rods. On the diamonds there is pistons slap????? How long will this last on start up and is it bad?

On the diamond pistons how long will the piston slap last when started up? And is this a bad thing? I have yet to hear of any one going through a set of diamonds. I will need something for 3.480 crank and 5.7 rods and stock PP heads... After market will come later as of right now I want to hear this thing run!

It doesn't have anything to do with diamond, 2618 expands a lot more and needs greater piston wall clearance. Normal forged JE pistons that aren't 2618 might need a wall near .004 but you might have to have around .008" for a 2618 set.

Rodrigues is correct, a JE tech suggests .006" to .007" piston to wall clearance for 2618 alloy forged pistons as they expand more then the 4340 alloy. I went with a set of custom JE -16cc 2618 pistons + hellfire rings and went with a .0065" piston to wall clearance.

I am going to be running nitrous for now, but in the future im slapping a set of heads with more flow/larger cc to drop the compression and slap on a charger...my piston to wall clearance and ring gapping on the pistons are setup to be forgiving when it comes to using them both.
