If out of the box you mean raw casting. then by all means stay with the stockers and port them.

The reality is that porting a set of stockers is around 1500-1600... So i prefer to spend the money on a better casting... The AFR 210s race ready will run you 1900+shipping and it comes ready to bolt on. Granted you need different springs for a HR and probably retainers but you can order them through TEA and have them exchange those parts...

I would order them via TEA. They quoted me to CNC port a 195 lt4s 2300 complete with parts.. which is not that bad really. They guaranteed 290cfms...

I prefer to spend the money now and wait a little longer till i have the car back, but when i have it will be better than the previous choice.
Well, I already have ported castings, I was just debating about running them or stepping up to AFR's.

If you have the ported castings and money is tight.. save it for the bits and peices...

If you can wait... I would go with the afr 210s... I had afrs 190s... and even though they didn't flow bad... I waited a bit longer and got the 210s... its not like i am rich or something similar, but i skimp on lunch just to go faster

With better heads you will make more power on pump gas.

Thanks for the input. We'll see. If I can get a deal on bare castings, then I may go for it.

For the pair or each???

If you go to AFR's website they list the 210's bare for $1014 for the pair if you download the pricelist PDF at the bottom in the left column.I called MORE Performance yesterday and he didnt belive the price. He told me 2000 for the assembled heads, or 1900 for them bare. i was like WTF, 100 discount for no valvetrain???

I am looking to spend between 1000-1200 bucks unported castings (which will have to be used for that money).

I agree with staying away from MORE performance.

If I were to get a set of AFR's ported then I would either talk to Phil at Advanced Induction or Brett at BAuer.

Because there are less motors out there running reverse cooling (LT1/LT4) than there are standard SBCs. It's almost cheaper to buy AFR's SBC heads and have them converted.

Well, I am going to be getting AFR LT4 210's. I will have them ported not by AFR. My question is, do any of my valvetrain components/geometry change? Can i use the stock size push rods, etc.

Thanks.
