adjustable bypass valve

I did a search and didnt come up with anything that pertained to this. I bought a used p500b kit and am installing it. Everything fit good, went well. The kit came with an all metal bypass valve with a ford part number on it, (E3TE-A2A). It has a threaded bolt on the end of the vacuum pod to adjust it with. How would I go about adjusting the valve? Also, when I checked the pod with a vacuum pump, it wouldnt hold pressure, it kept slowly bleeding off, is it suppose to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Eric L

Thanks for the information. Where would be a good place to start with the screw? All the way in, all the way out? It seems to bleed off fairly quickly, than slow at around 3 psi on a vacuum pump guage. I dont know if this is normal or not. Thanks Eric L

That screw is really just a stop to keep the blade in the valve from going past the center position. If you need a new diaphram, the NAPA Part# is 2-4995.

Thankyou very much for the part number. Is that suppose to bleed off like that? So there is no way to adjust it at all? Any idea where it opens and closes at (i.e. what vacuum rating it closes at) thankyou again. Eric L

It shouldn't bleed off like that. That may be a sign of a bad diaphram. It should open and close with 1-2 psi of vacuum / boost.

It does open immediately with 1 or 2 lbs, but when you put a vacuum pump on it and pump it up to 15 lbs, it bleeds down to 5 ro 6 psi REAL quick, than slowly bleeds off all the way. I would think it would be a vacuum leak? Eric L

I'm not a fan of the ATI "butterfly" type bypass. Leaks. I'm now using (2) bosch type valves. Also, HKS makes a nice adjustable SSQV valve that works quite well. They now make a "bypass" mod to their blow-off SSQV valve, and, most of the support hardware.
