166k miles on lt1 is Supercharging a bad idea

166k miles on lt1 is Supercharging a bad idea. I feel my Engine is still strong, but will I put too much of a strain on the motor. Or would rebuilding the Engine be more effective. Any replies would be much appreciated. New to the Site. Thanks

well, rebuilding would be BEST, but that doesnt mean it wont work without being rebuilt...

know it doesnt help, but, thats it

You'll end up with some blowby.. With 166k miles on an LT1, the rings are probably pretty worn.. You could always do it and be ready for the rebuild which will happen at some point anyway..

I would just go for the rebuild first. The lt1 isnt a very good motor for boost in stock form. Cast pistons and 10.5:1 compression arent boost friendly. I would rebuild your motor, with lower compression forged pistons, i think you can handle some pretty decent boost if you run forged with ~ 9:1 compression. As always, i would search and get some more info before taking my word for it though.

Boosted my Impala LT1 at 180K. Lasted until I decided to put heads and cam in it and see how she handled the dyno. Spun the 2, 3 and 4 bearings at 190K while tunning. Still had cross hatch in the cylinders. I would at least freshen up the bearings before you do this.
