X pipe for dumps...Why?
What's the reason to get an X-pipe if you're just going to get dumps in front of the axles? Why not just have a short length of straight pipe coming from each of the collectors into the mufflers?
Yeah, basically. The X-pipe improves the scavenging effect -- basically, the exhaust pulses that are already out of the cylinders help to pull out the pulses behind them. An X-pipe allows all 8 cylinders to benefit from the scavenging effect from all 8 cylinders, whereas two straight, unconnected dumps would only get the scavenging effect from the cylinders in the same bank.
