What headers should I get?

I am looking for long tube headers, my car has few bolt ons right now but I want to get heads and cam in future when I rebuilt the engine. We don't have emissions in Canada that's not an issue. I know that Kooks are probably the best headers out there but I think that they are way over priced, I can't see myself spending 1200-1300 dollars for headers and y-pipe. I would like to spend around $800.

I've seen a lot of guys running pace setter around here and I found this set on jegs http://www.jegs.com/i/Pace+Setter/766/72C2239K/10002/-1 which looks good but I don't know good are they and how well they fit also they are below my budget. Is there anything else that I should be looking at?

I used those on my car- the fitment was fine. Get some band clamps instead of the crimp style- makes removing the y pipe a lot easier later on down the road.

You might be able to find a group purchase on those headers- I bought those exact headers w y-pipe for around $450 shipped.

Wow that's hell of a deal, you can't beat that. Where did you buy that, was that group purchase?

Yeah- it was a group purchase here actually- granted it was a few years ago, but I wouldn't think the price would have jumped that much already...

Summit has the same headers right now for $450, another $120 for the y-pipe which still comes in almost $100 less than Jegs...Shop around, might find a good deal. Also check Summit often as sometimes they offer sales and other incentives on their website.

Thanks, I will check out summit. What kind of gain did you notice after you did headers.

I heard that hookers hang lower then other headers, say then pace setters which I am considering now, but I will check them out also.

I can't say since I also dropped in the 383 and a smaller pulley at the same time...The exhaust note was a little deeper and louder, but also hard to say because of the headers since the motor is also moving more air...

Do I really need new engine mounts or can get away with using stock ones. If so where can I find then, I assume that new mounts would make the engine sit lower making more room between floor and headers, right?

Can't go wrong with a good set of ceramic coated pacesetters. Go on ebay and look up "Speed Daddy longtube headers", they have some fitment issues but for a set of stainless LTs for under $400, I'd say they're hard to beat. A guy on here runs them. Good luck with your search.

No problem a friend of mine ordered his header/y pipe combo for his LQ4 swap from them a month and remembered how cheap it was. So I checked to see if they were cheap for the LT1 and they are.

New mounts will have stiffer rubber, and raise the engine up.
