Cool thoughts about QTP cut out.

i have a stock slp exhaust that came on my 97 ss and have only put on some BBK shorty headers and was wondering with my mods what kind of gains will i get with an open cut out. right now with what i got in my sig im putting 312rwhp any increase due to my mods?

I think Lingenfelter said it best...
"It's more impressive to be quiet and fast than loud and slow."

You may see an increase of a few extra horsepower.

i do completely agree that quiet and fast is more fun. nothing like seeing an open exhaust mustang figure out why the v6 sounding camaro blew him off

on the dyno, stock engine a4 i pulled....

cutout closed- 281 rwhp

cutout open- 290rwhp

i had the qtp and had no major problems. only thing i didnt like, and it might be all makes, is that sometimes it didnt close all the way. you'd have to tap it open again and then reclose it otherwise it gave a weird whistling noise

well i just figured that since i have not did a cat back system yet that it would be a cool mod to do since im not planning on changing the two on the left exhaust set up. i also just wanted to make my car sound more aggressive at the track when im flying down the straight aways, and sound stock when i drive it on the street.

i have the same setup with Longtubes and an ORY. Open its loud as HELL. videos do the volume no justice at all. closed it sounds stock unless youre above 3500 rpm. here's some vids for ya.

Close/Open cutout:

a compilation of my setups: (all open cutout though)

2 more in car, open cutout vids: (make sure you click windows media player or you wont have sound)

oh and also. get a DMH instead mine has been flawlessly reliable for 3 years now. I use the crap out of it.

dont expect any major hp gains, however opening/closing the cutout will shift your power curve. Youll lose grunt down low in exchange for easier revs up top. My car definitely goes WOT better with it open, and cruises better closed.

did i mention that the videos dont do the volume of the exhaust any justice?

the good thing is i can have it anywhere in between open and closed and thats usually where i have it. half open it will stay quiet cruising and bark when i gun it.
