For those with Kooks...

I just ordered a set of Kooks 1 3/4 race headers for my 94 Z28 and was wondering what O2 extensions I need. I couldn't find it, but I remember a thread where someone said they just needed one for the passenger side. I couldn't remember how long it was, though. Also, how are the gaskets and bolts that come with it.

Yes, just one O2 extension for the passenger side. I think it is 18". The gaskets that come with them should work, but I went with Fel-Pro 1470s. The bolts are only 3/4" long, and I would recommend getting some 1" bolts. I went with ARP stainless 1" bolts, and I like them. They have a 5/16" head that makes getting them tightened easier than other bolts with 3/8" heads. I would also recommend changing your spark plugs, since they have to come out anyway.

Thanks, man...I found the thread that you posted awhile back, so I was planning on getting the same bolts that you got. I was also planning on getting a starter heat shield, did you get one or have you had any problems with the starter getting hot from the headers? How long did you leave the spark plug wires under the headers and did you have any problems? What brand is your OTVC kit? I am going to order one, just not yet. I changed my spark plugs not to long ago, so they should be fine. By the way, how have you like the Kooks?

I absolutely love the headers. Lots more power, it was probably the best mod I did before my heads/cam. Plus they turn gold after a while, and it looks awesome.

I don't have a heat shield for the starter, there is actually pretty good clearance around it. No problems yet. I originally had stock length MSD wires, but I burned one after the header install. I went with MSD cut-to-fit wires and Made For You looms. I forget the part numbers, but I posted them on another thread, along with pictures.

I'm pretty sure a 12" extension will work on the passenger side, when I have everything finally hooked up tomorrow or Thursday I will check this thread again and confirm that.

It turns out the 12" extension will work on the passenger side but it's a tight tight fit.

I have to say I would recommend going with the 18" and just using a zip tie.

That's what I was thinking. I just zip tied mine to part of the frame, no problems yet.

I ordered the 24in, just to be safe. I'll just zip tie it as well. Hopefully I can install these soon. I'll post pics as soon as I can. Thanks for all the help.

If you need any help during your install feel free to PM me because I just did this and everything should be fresh in my mind for a while.

I used an 18" extension on the passenger side, and there was a lot of slack. I used zip ties to remove the slack. I didn't need an extension for the driver's side. I can't speak for the supplied bolts and gaskets. I used Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets, and 1" Breslin Split Lock stainless steel header bolts.

I used stage 8 locking header bolts, and we used 19 inches of extension. Id imagin you can use 18. Plus, I zip tied mine up.

I didn't have one but you can't run the oil cooler with Kooks headers, you have to remove it or I suppose relocate it.
