Question stock cat with headers

i am getting ready to install pacesetter mids on my 94 z. I wanted to know how do i reuse the stock cat?its welded to the stock y-pipe. Is there a way around this without having to buy a new cat?

Are you using a new y-pipe as well? If so, depending on the size of the new pipe versus the factory pipe, you could always hack out the old cat and transfer it. Still, a nice quality high flow cat is not very expensive either.

i am using the y-pipe that comes with the headers. could i use a pipe reducer to put the cat back on the new y-pipe after i cut it out? i dont want to buy a new cat if i dont have to,regardless of price. i already spent enough on headers and tools to put them in.

You could use a reducer, but then you are adding a restriction into your new y-pipe. Not to mention the labor and reducer pieces involved, a brand new cat may still be a better option. Just a thought.

You can get a good cat from a couple diff brands and cause much less of a hassle and cost for yourself.... Check ebay out for "Carsound Magnaflow" cats, a 3" is 69$....

Also you could try summit for Catco catylitic converters, they are higher flowing then stock, and inexpensive!
