some exhaust (rasp) help please.

i have a 95 z28. i have stock manifolds (staying) NO cat (staying)

my problem is i cant find a catback i like.

1. magnaflow was too raspy and not loud

2. slp loudmouth sounded like a dump truck/ derby car

3. hooker was ok. very quiet didnt have the right "low" tone for me.

4. cut out sucked more then slp (was on the hooker though)

4. flowmaster 80, i do not care what any of you say about flow. this is the best damn sound on the LT1. nice low rumble BUT........

you rev it to 3000-3400 its very raspy (like all the rest) but since i nailed the muffler i want i just want to tone the rasp down. im looking at adding one of these bullet/resonator...

in the long strait peice before the rear axel. (runs along the driveshaft)

i mean my question is (with no regard to h/p) will this alone tone down the rasp around 3k rpm?

The primary reason our f-bodies have the annoying raspy sound is the single exhaust. When the two pipes converge, the fast gases clash and at a specific frequency, you get the noise. This happens in the 2K RPM range with headers for the rest of us.

The secondary reason is the fact you have pulled your cat. The cat acts to dampen and balance the gases so that the sound does not occur.

Just to throw it out their, even though this is not what you are wanting to do. The best way to remove the rasp is to go true duals exhaust. I recently had annoying rasp and when I completed my TD's, it was all gone and I could not be happier.

Back to your question. Flowmaster does sond good and the resonator will only mildly help. I once ran mid-tube headers and full Borla with a resonator in place of the cat. Again there was only a slight reduction in rasp.

You might consider a chambered muffler in the I pipe from www.classicchambered.com

By and large as long as the cat is off, you will have some rasp.
