Slip tube

I've got a set of headers on my car that have a number one slip tube in them. I was told I could just put some silicone on the primary before inserting it into the rest of the header. Is there any special kind of silicone that will hold up to the heat from it without catching on fire? Or would maybe a exhaust wrap over where they connect? Any help would be appreciated guys. Thanks.

You don't want to use silicone on the exhaust system. It will contaminate the O2 sensors.

I also have a #1 slip tube, and it seals pretty tight once it heats up. If yours is extra loose for some reason then I would try a band clamp over it.

DOH! I never even thought of using a band clamp. Thank you for the idea.

Injuneer - I was thinking that would be a problem. I just wanted to get more opinions on the situation. Thanks.

Are you sure you have a leak? My AS&M's have a slip tube on #1, and they've been on the car for 10 years without a leak.

Am I sure? No, not 100%. I haven't had time to give the car a good look over. I am just trying to get some info so I know what to do in case it is the problem.
