Removing the stock muffler power gains

So right now my exhaust system consists, stock manifolds, cat is still on their (dont pay attention to the sig), and theres a 3" cutout right before the rear axle.

The stock muffler is still on their too.

So I was doin a little cleaning of my car today and had the idea of removing the muffler in the back all together just for fun.

Now will this yield me any more power gains on top of the cutout?

Or is my exhaust already open enough?

Also, in general, is the more your exhaust is "open" the better it is? Like is having a cutout or open headers or w/e better than having a catback system.

I read that back pressure was not an issue with these engines.

Thanks

It won't gain you anything over the cutout, especially at your current power level.

There will be no power gains over the already open cutout, but on a sidenote, it would be a good way to shave off some pounds from the car considering the weight of the catback assembly.

Will it be louder?

And is a cutout better than a good catback?

If you already have an open cutout and want to hack off the exhaust, it may make a slight change in the exhaust note. If you have a very good catback that flows well, it should make gains that are close to having an open cutout.

I removed the muffler and went with a bullet with 3" piping out the rear. Weight savings plus it's just like a cut out with a little less noise. It is great with the long tubes and offroad y pipe.

you could go borla its essentially a cutout and sounds good and all the sound exits the back so it doesn't drown out what passengers are saying! also when a cop pulls you over it looks all good.

Well right now it sounds fantastic (stock exhaust with just 3" cutout)

In fact the other day while manuevering around in a parking garage trying to park in a tight space i revved it up a little and 3 girls next to us screamed really loud and said "your car is scarrrrry"....me and my friend looked at each other

And I can still hear people fine at any speed.

I'm on a tight budget with this car being in college and all, so I dont gots the money to spend on catbacks and stuff. Id rather remove stuff then put it on

Thanks for your hlep

Im confused on if girls are saying your car is scary, if thats a good thing or a bad thing ????

Anyways, if you dropped the muffler, like others have said, you would loose quite a bit of weight, and i image would gain a very very small amount of horsepower, id say >1rwhp because with a cutout some exhaust still exits through the muffler. im not for sure what the rear section ways, but i would say maybe 40-50lbs.. Another option, is to get rid of the cut out, and just have your exhaust ran out the rear into a y and then have it exit in the original locations. This would get all of the rattiling inside the car from the open cutout under the car ( if that is an issue at all ) and would keep it less noisey inside the cockpit. If you are just hooked on not running with no mufflers, i would just sell the cutout, and run exhaust out the rear with no muffler.

Oh its a good thing. I prefer that over "Your care is so cuuuute"

And they like riding in it to. They tell me how it rumbles their booties and it feels good.

I may just drop the muffler with my friends and have fun with it and see what it does for tomorrows project.
