Cool Removing cat and addinga Magnaflow muffler????

Hi all! My Flowmaster just rotted out. I noticed this while washing my car yesterday.
I am planning on replacing the Muffler alone with a Magnaflow. WHich Magnaflow should I buy???? anyone got the part #.
Im also just thinking of removing the Cattalyytic converter since I no longer have to take the emmisions test...... will this improve/harm performance??

How will this set up sound????

I wouldn't recommend removing the cats as it will result in a loss of low end torque. Magnaflow offers the Camaro mufflers below in several pipe diameters.

Removing the cat(s) will not reduce low end torque. Seems like you may have bought into the "backpressure" myth.

Your statement is completely accurate in that the late model F-body will not show a loss of power at WOT without cats. I personally have tested 100's of LSx vehicles for PCM recalibrations and each WOT dyno will show power increases for catalyst removal.

That being said, the issue of exhaust back pressure and power is relative to the application and specifically the way the power is measured (WOT or Part Throttle.) While the so-called myth may not specifically apply to these vehicles at WOT, the concept of low exhaust back pressure and power loss is not completely unfounded especially when looking at ALL driving conditions.

What we don't typically see is power measures collected during part throttle operation. Part throttle operation will show a power detriment if back pressure is dropped significantly. Here at MAGNAFLOW we also conduct FTP simulation tests for catalyst certification and they will confirm additional throttle angle is required to sustain speed under the same load and as well will typical report reduced mpg due to lower engine efficiency. The exhaust system design has very different effects when comparing part throttle and full throttle operation. There is of course a lot more to this and OEM calibrations have a good deal to do with it, but the low back pressure, power loss issue is not completely unfounded.

Oh and consider of course the removal of emissions devises is illegal and you are probably not going to see anyone in an official capacity at MagnaFlow endorse such an action unless for "off-road use."

for sure ditch the cat. I would also consider a hooker aerochamber.

My lt1 gained very noticable low end torque after removing the cat. Tires spun much easier and at lower RPM when powerbraking.
