QTP Electric Cutout

Ordering my cut out for my camaro and saw there electronic controller. I know i don't need this but it got me wondering. When i open the cutout, i have to hold the button until its all the way open? then hold it until its all the way closed?

Thanks Chris

I have run a QTP 3 1/2" Single cut out on a Mufflex system. Installed before the kick over the axle. I only have the low cost switch option. It is OK, but you do not want to hold it and drive it open or closed due to extended current draw. It is fused. With engine off (Ign ON) I listen for it to load up full closed or open position. Or, with engine on the noise will reduce and I will stop. I did notice the screws do come loose and I usually re-torque @ least once during the year and clean the carbon from the disc seal. It really helped with the flow, but alot of noise. app... 97ss 383-D1 MM6. B.

Something else you may try are the DMH Performance electric cutouts

You dont want to hold the switch in an on position any longer than necessary. There is a great deal of gear reduction in the gear boxes and the gears, bushings are going to be stressed or torqued once the blade hits full open or closed and the power is still on.

This is what I did on my cutouts. Go to radio shack and get a pair of 50 ohm 10 watt resistors and put them PARALLEL on the 12v power wire for the cutouts.

The resistors will reduce the power going to the switches and ultimately the cutout motors and not cause them to be stressed once the are full open or closed. The resistors will also ensure that one they fully close, that the motor and drivetrain do not "rebound" or "recoil" and cause the blade to slightly crack back open.

The resistors will also cause them to open and close much slower than before, but they will work much better and last much longer. I have never understood why the manufacturers dont do this.

I wired mine off of the cigarette lighter, so the key doesn't need to be on. Easy to hear when the motor stops.

My DMHs are already leaking after 3 weeks!! There appears to be a rubber o-ring in there that seals the valve when shut and it keeps poping out. Very annoying to hear these things leak when closed. Go figure, with this economy you can't get a "quality" product anymore.

Ive been running my DMH for a year and a half now and I havent had any leaking problems or screws backing out. My brother has been running dual low pro DMH's on his GTO and he is problem free as well. I know my buddy has a QTP on his third gen and he has had the problem with the screws backing out, must be a common problem. Granted I have only put roughly 400 miles a year in the past 3 years on my Camaro so mine doesn't see much road time

I know alot of people have had success with DMH and supposedly the QTP was known for leaking, but I was very unpleased to see carbon on the outside of the butterflies. Granted, I have opened/closed about a dozen times in a few weeks- maybe they just not meant for that much use?
