qtp electric cutout

I'm considering getting a single cutout, but I have a few questions..

is ground clearance a big issue? is there any place I can install it that it wont be?

are the electric motors prone to get screwed up easily?

where exactly would I be wiring the switch..?

edit: after doing some quick research I'm leaning towards a dmh e-cutout instead of qtp, same price.. and a 4 year warrentee.

If you have it mounted right before the rear axle, you shouldn't have any clearance issues whatsoever. As for the electric motors, there are the cases where the motors have failed on a short term basis, and others have lasted trouble-free for many years. As for the switch, it is your discretion. You can mount it in plain sight, you can hide it in the ashtray area, or inside your center console.

Thats seems to be the general feeling. Plus, they offer a good warranty.

Do we have a supporting vendor that sells them? I'm a little pressed for time today, or I'd look around.

I had both... personally I liked the QTP better. I would not hesitate using one again but I dont need it on a race car. Its smaller and easier to work with and mount The DMH one broke on me 2 times and the QTP worked great for 3 years before I gave it to a friend. He sent it back and had a new motor put on it after he hit a speed bump with it. He had it mounted wierd so it hung too low. Other than that its been fine.

I installed a 3 1/2" QTP in the Rt. rear seat pocket. The QTP was a smaller design. I have not used the DMH but see it is a popular item. So far, the QTP is working great. I also fabricated a small turn-down to direct exhaust flow to the ground. I am careful not to over drive the electric motor @ the open/ closed stops. You can hear the motor load change when it is @ full close, and open (engine off). (97SS 383 - D1)

Installed the QTP and dynoed a difference of 4rwhp/9rwtq between open and closed.
I don't know how much I lost by introducing that turbulance into the mix.
It was nice to have the extra noise on demand for setting off car alarms in the executive parking garage.

As for the quality of QTP, I've broken 3 now in less than a year.
The motors just keep tearing themselves off the units.

I'm taking the Y off this week and going with a strait 3" pipe.

Had the DMH for at least 2 years, driven through snow, mud, rain, everything.

No problems at all, and from what i hear opens and closes much quicker than the qtp.

I have a McCord elec. cutout. It sucks! Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it won't. I haven't checked the wiring, so maybe it isn't the system but the install. Maybe wires just came loose. I don't know, just throwing it out there.
