Talking Please help me plan my true duel exhaust

I am starting to collect parts for a completely new exhaust system. I plan on doing a stainless true duel, over axle system.

I already picked up some long tube headers from another member on this site.

I have an idea of what I will be doing. Here is a really rough sketch. I wasn't going to be very specific with the cut outs right now but later I will likely do duel electric cut outs and downward dump. The cats are needed to stay in compliance with Ohio law.

Like I said right now I have headers and an idea but any suggestions going forward?

Thinking about swapping cutout and reducer location. It is easier to find a 3" cutout then a 3.5"

So far I might have an idea of a few things. Click on the picture to go to Summit for information.

Reducer 3.5" - 3"

Cutout 3"

Catalytic converter 3" in 3" out

X pipe 3"

Muffler 3" center in 3" offset out

I'm not sure what to get for the over axle pipes. Anybody suggest for the above?

If you are wanting to go over the axle, you will find real quick that pre made pipes dont do the trick. Buy j-bends and straight pipe and fab it the way you want it to be. Also with your mods, dual 3" pipes are a waste of time and money and a much bigger headache. Check out my TD's in my sig.

The header outlet is 3.5" I will need to figure out what reducer I will need. At first I was going to make it 2.5" but 3" parts are not much more money. I want to keep it all stainless. I think I will go without the cutouts to save space and money.

Its not about the cost. At some point pipes are too big for the flow produced and scavaging is lost. Bye bye power especially low end torque.

If you are planning on making big power down the road, like 500RWHP+, go 3". Again for your current setup, 2.5 is way plenty. Judging by your times, you are nearly stock and an arguement can be made that even dual 2.25" might work even better than 2.5" pipes.

Right, this is all planning and collecting parts. I will be replacing heads, cam, RR and eventually diving into the motor for a 355 build for a centrifugal supercharger.

I was thinking into the future. I am not racing the car or anything the times where from test and tune.

Will 3" not work? I have a welding shop in mind already I was planning on having the exhaust system with 4 pieces

headers clamped to Reducers which are welded to Cats which are clamped to X pipe which is welded to mufflers which is clamped to over axle pipes.

epic run on sentence!

just a heads up- i've been making a custom 3" dual setup for mine. I read the Dual exhaust posted thread at the top and figured it would be simple. So far i've frankenstiened my old y pipe setup, with the universal x pipe setup from summit. I have 2" of ground clearance (which sux) thanks to the cutout on the drivers side. One problem with my setup, that I didn't notice in other pics until i started installing, is my UMI tunnel mount TA basically screws me bigtime. Most have the xpipe right where the mount is, so I ran the xpipe right below the TA. I have it held together with supplied clamps currently, but hoping to have it all tucked as tight as possible and welded... should have around 3" of clearance when that's done. Sounds good, but gotta be conscience of where i'm driving to avoid speed bumps.

Edelbrock Victor series.

I am changing it up a bit. !cutouts and !stainless. I want to weld it up myself.

I opted for cherrybomb vortex mufflers instead of the Hooker Aerochambers. They are a smidge smaller, flow like crazy and the sound clips and videos are great. I have the headers, reducers and mufflers. Waiting on U bends and straight pipe.

Let us know if you need any materials, or if you have any questions.

Thanks

Thanks, I'm looking for exhaust tips. I just need to decide on which ones. I think I'm leaning toward a simple slash cut.

Just an update I got the driver's side header on so I can get a better idea of how things will sit. I came up with a different idea of what I will likely do.

I decided running them together would help me route them away from fuel lines and possibly higher in the chassis. I want to try to place the mufflers in the rear after the axle but I won't really know if that will work till I get them out and in place.

I started a Blog this past weekend for project progress. This way I can just post threads about questions.

If you can, take some pictures of the ground clearance you have at the collectors. Push a can up next to it for some reference. I have these headers sitting in a box in my garage and I am conserned about ground clearance.

please, tell me you have your car lowered...

...and can you tell us how the headers went in for you? Any trouble spots to look out for? Areas for consern? How do you feel about the headers now that they are installed?
