I didnt want to have cats on my car and never thought further ahead than putting my headers in. Now that they are almost in, where can I go to get an S-pipe fabbed up and put in to connect the 94-95 headers to my 97 exhaust system? Ive heard Midas and stuff wont touch a car without cats unless they are putting some on it.

Unfortunately, you don't live in my town. There's a local place that will not put a cat on your car by request. However, they won't give you a receipt for the work they do. I've had three older cars that they have done this on and their prices are unbelievable. They are an independent business, not some chain or franchise. Ask around for a shop like this in your area, maybe you'll get lucky.

I would think that if you look for an independent exhaust shop(probably one with a performance background) you will find what you are looking for. On the other hand you could take the exhaust parts somewhere to have them weld up a piece of pipe to replace the cat and just tell them it is for a trailered race car. It's only illegal if you drive away with it, not if you trailer the car in or just bring parts.

You just have to find a local exhaust shop. They'll usually do it for you. Cash only, no receipt kinda deal.

SLP sells a kit with the S-pipe and some other installation components. I'm not sure if thats what your looking for or not, but it is kind of spendy.

I had a local indepedent exhaust shop do the work for me. I guess the way they do the paperwork is that they classify the car as for "off-road purpose" only, but I still did get a receipt.

Is it possible to pass emissions in Illinois without cats? What would you need to do to stop the computer from turning codes?

If they use a sniffer, it's not going to work. Likewise for visual inspections unless you have a gutted cat (that looks like it's still there).

If all they do is check the ECM, it's fairly easy to get the codes removed.

Keep in mind though that when you have things deleted from the PCM, it is only going to post "not ready" statuses in the PCM. In IL, I believe you are only allowed 3. Which car are you referring to by the way, I noticed you have a few in your sig?

The car I'm worried about is my '99 Z28. I'm ordering Pacesetters and an SLP LM. I'd like to either eliminate the cats or gut them. Probably just eliminate them since Illinois doesn't perform visual inspections at emissions tests. Any suggestions on how to run the exhaust I want and still pass emissions?

If you used 02 sims or just PCM tuning, the rear 02 sensors can be disabled preventing an SES light from the lack of functioning cats or cats altogether.

I dunno, I'm in Ohio, the majority of us have no emissions. no emissions means longtubes with no cats for me, and an OBD1 swap next week lol. I swear if they bring back emissions.....
