New Muffler Suggestions?
New Muffler Suggestions?
I currently have a Flowmaster Muffler on my 1995 Z28. I have been running it for about 2 years now and it is time for a change.
I am getting a little tired of the drone sound it makes on the highway and long trips. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on an exhaust that will provide a nice V-8 idle, but at highway speeds quiet the car down? I would prefer something budget wise, but I am open to all suggestions.
Also, will I see any difference in Fuel economy? Increase or decrease. Currently it is difficult to get to or obtain 275 miles on the highway (Probably about a 14 gallon fillup... 51-52 Litres here).

I believe it is a 3" I pipe. So I would assume it is catback.

I got out the digital calipers today. It is a 3" pipe leading into the current muffler.

I am not sure what you mean by not making a big difference? Do you mean fuel wise? I am not too worried about that portion. I just want to have a car I can stand driving in for longer trips.
What is the Magnaflow sound like on the highway? Is it quieter then the flowmaster? Does the Magnaflow use baffles or is it like the flow master that utilizes a series a chevrons?

Hooker Aerochamber
I also had the Flowmaster80 for6-7 yrs.and i wanted something quieter @idle,less drone on the hiway, long trips, and the fact that i went w/Mac mids.My choice was Hooker Aerochamber and i,m very happy i did.
It sounds like a Borla cat back would suite you well. It has adjustable plates that can be removed and replaced to make the car louder or more quiet. Do some research on it, I bet you will like it.
hah no man not fuel...sound. It really isnt going to very much if all you have is a muffler IMO unless you go to a muffler which really isnt a muffler but just a resonator like a gmmg. Which is pointless IMO, why pay so much for a fancy resonator...just get straight pipes???
If you have a cat back with a 3” intermediate pipe, check the muffler layout before you buy another. Most use a muffler inlet offset to the rear like the stock one, but some don’t. Some use a center inlet (some of the slp intermediate pipes are the ones that I’ve run into specifically) and some use an inlet offset to the front.
For something quieter sounding inside (and better flowing), I’m a big fan of the dynomax ultraflow welded muffler, the offset/center flows more than just about any other 3” muffler and still sounds mellow under most conditions, although it gets loud at WOT.
