New exhaust for 2000 SS
New exhaust for 2000 SS
Well - I decided I will do it, but not sure what to have done.
I have a 2000 SS w/ replaced stock muffler with Flowmaster. And it just sucks, cannot even tell the car is running - IMHO.
I have a great local muffler / custom exhaust place here in Royal Oak, Mich and after being at the cruise and having 4.6 L Stangs deafen my SS, I want a change.
I am not looking at running or anything like that - I want a thick, throaty, heavy sound. I was thinking true dual - but really don't know anything about cars. I know this LS1 could sound alot better.
The muffler shop guy will go whatever I want and really doesnt have suggestions.
Price really isnt an issue. I didnt think it would be that much - I guess I would drop between $500 and $1000.
I just want the thing to start and sound like it is running - ya know. Give it some *****.
I will take any suggestions to the muffler guy.
Thanks!

What are you looking to get out of this car? Some added noise or is performance an issue as well?
A new cat-back system can provided you with a diffrent sound level as well as a slight performance gain.
Headers is always an option and those along a new cat-back or duals will make the car even louder will even more performance value.
Decide what you want the car to do first then look for the parts that will help you reach your goal. Don't do it the other way.

I've got a MagnaFlow on mine and love it. However you sometimes get a slight drone. If you have a stock motor w/ cats SLP loudmouth sounds great. Had that setup before, but when I added cubes and LT headers it was too loud so a Magnaflow went on. I've also have an electric cut out to terrorize those darn stangs.

if price isisnt much of a concern id agree and say go with a gmmp, otherwise i would seriously consider an electric cutout. its honetly not as loud as you might think, just add it on behind the cat and itl sound nice.
btw id put your stock muffler back on place of the flowmaster. esp. if its an slp muffler..

For the money you want to spend, why not increase performance AND sound?
Get a set of longtubes and catted or off road Y pipe...
Here's mine with JetHot longtubes, Off Road Y and stock catback. I have Magnaflow catback now, but it isn't all that much louder.
