Magnaflow exhaust illegal in MA?

I got pulled over by the cops the other day. They said that my exhaust system is illegal. Said i can't have a "altered" exhaust system.

This seems like complete bullsh$% to me. Does anyone know if this is true?

Or maybe its just the tail pipes? The are oversized and LOUD.

Maybe if i get some smaller tips i won't get into trouble?

Yikes, if they consider the Magnaflow too loud, I would hate to see what they say about other exhaust systems. Find out what your state regulations are, if you indeed can't have a modified exhaust, then you'll have to figure something out. You could always keep the i-pipe and muffler portion of the Magnaflow system and have some stock tailpipes and tips put on.

I was pulled over in the northwest Suburbs of Chicago (not naming the town) about a week ago for my Flowmaster catback being too loud.... I was in 5TH GEAR and BELOW 2000 RPM.....

I think the cop was just having a bad day because he nabbed me right after he pulled out of the station. I was let off with a warning because I had just bought the car the week prior and explained I was getting all of it changed out.

I thought the flowmaster was very tame compared to other catbacks I had heard Now I have the SLP Dual/Dual axleback and the leaky Edeljunk header is my only complaint.

I just emailed magnaflow about this. They sent me a FAQ's email. The systems are 50 state legal, according to them.

I think i will try to get some less flashier pipes/tips. I don't want to get pulled over again. Its bound to happen again if the cops in this state have nothing better to do than to pull us over for "altered exhaust systems"

It was probably just the cop being an a$$hat.

I got pulled over last summer for illegal window tint. I shut the car down before the cop got out of the car because I dont have a cat. Then he asked me if I shut it off because it was really loud, I said no. Then he told me to fire it up and rev it a little. So I did. This is with Mac mids, no cat, and magnaflow. He said it sounded really good and started telling be about his old caprice squad car with an LT1.

In MA, anything louder than stock is illegal. Yeah, this state is a bunch of bull****.
